Marmot PFL: Qf4, idea threatens to doulbe g pawns, or gets d file control if white takes on d5.

Honza Cervenka: After 19...Re8 20.Qd3 Be4 21.Qc3 Qf4 (see diagram) we can get a position which I had on board before Leko played b5.

I have to admit that black has some good compensation in activity for worse Pawn structure here.

Marmot PFL: 19...Re8 also looks good, as does Qb7
Nov-16-06  gus inn: this is going to look good for Leko.

Honza Cervenka: Qd3 is almost forced now.
Nov-16-06  Mateo: Leko has some initiative here because of a slight lead in development.

tpstar: Crafty is a girl?! Then she should compete in the Women's Computer events. ;>D

The women I know, you don't need to ask for their opinion ...

Nice game - looks pretty even.

Nov-16-06  mang00neg: well I was indifferent about who would take 1st place, but after this short draw i'm behind Aronian.
Nov-16-06  Scarecrow: True Leko. I just hope Aronian doesn't win now

Honza Cervenka: <After 19...Re8 20.Qd3 Be4 21.Qc3 Qf4> white can play 22.Qc1!? Trading of Queens with next BxN is not so good for black as Pawn structure on Queenside would be much more important than Kingside weaknesses of white and Bishop should be better than the Knight here. The alternative 22...Qh4 23.h3! Qh5 24.Ng5 looks fine for white at first glance.

Honza Cervenka: I am a bit disappointed because the position was very interesting and deserved to be played longer. But from Leko's part this is quite reasonable solution. I don't think that black is better here and once his initiative would have been eliminated white could have been better.
Nov-16-06  slomarko: yesterday i predicted here it will be a 20 moves draw and i was wrong only by one move. Gelfand-Aronian also draw. chess fans waited whole day for these games not now this. Leko, Ponomariov, Gelfand and Aronian should be ashamed.
Nov-16-06  slomarko: <mang00neg: well I was indifferent about who would take 1st place, but after this short draw i'm behind Aronian> yeah only that he made an even shorter one.
Nov-16-06  Per: Coooooooooooooowards!
Show them how to fight, Topa..!!
Nov-16-06  Rocafella: I would have liked to see 20.Bxd5 Rxe2 21.Bxa8...then we have a fight on our hands :)
Nov-20-06  sharpnova: <virginmind>

I don't hate Leko. As far as chess players go he's a pleasant guy. And well rounded too.

But his chess isn't exactly the most exciting thing since sliced bread.

Nov-20-06  alicefujimori: <sharpnova>Well, Leko's chess used to be quite exciting...but that's before he abandoned the Grunfeld in favour of the NID and QID.
