RonB52734: <chessgames.com> Please note: the Ulvestad v. Steiner, US Open 1946 game that I submitted a short time ago is indeed a different game from this one. The game on this page was played in the preliminary round. The game I submitted was played in the final round.

Resignation Trap: <RonB52734> The other Ulvestad-Steiner game was a Dutch Defense, and Ulvestad had a brilliant victory within his grasp, but blundered and ended up losing.

RonB52734: <Resignation Trap> Yes, several months ago now I plugged that game into Hiarcs just to have it spit out a PGN, which I uploaded to <chessgames.com>. As you know, the tournament book says something like "Ulvestad sacrificed his Queen for a strong attack, but when the attack fizzled..." Well, at the point where the "attack fizzled," Hiarcs lit up with a forced mating line for White, which he missed. If that game ever makes it out of the <chessgames.com> PGN upload queue, I have some analysis ready to go.
