  al wazir: What does black do after 51. Rc5 ? If 51...Rb1+ then 52. Rcc1 Rdb3 53. Nd2. Now what?

BTW, this looks like a two-dog night.

al wazir: I guess 51...Rxf3, followed by 52...Rxh3 is enough to win.

dzechiel: As I played over the game I thought that white should have played 34 Nxb3 and traded down the the bad side of R+4P v R+3P. I think he had real drawing chances after that, as all pawns are clustered in the K-side.
Jan-09-07   syracrophy: The first Game of the Day, that has been played in the 2007!

Very nice one! In my opinion, Howell plays very well :-)

I think he had real drawing chances after that, as all pawns are clustered in the K-side.> If black takes the N with the R then only what you say is valid. But I think black wins with 34 Nxb3 Rc2+ and then 35 ... Rb2

By the way, are <amuralid> and <al wazir> relatives. :D

Jan-09-07   Ashram64: good action from the newest 1/2 asian GM of 2007. that one pawn handicapped 1/2 white's army for half of the game

kevin86: For over half the game, the white rook is helplessly handcuffed to a1-to hold off the black pawn at a2-in addition, much of white's other play focused on that same corner. In such a weakened state, white's game was destined to go down.
Jan-09-07   Themofro: The course of the entire game was decided by black's very good and very energetic handling of the opening, though white made some errors in the opening, u must applaud blacks play.
