 | | Marmot PFL: Ivanchuk hardly has time to calculate but maybe he can gain some with checks. |
| Mar-03-07 | | cjrubiks: No: White can check on d5 |
Mar-03-07
 | | An Englishman: <TheAlchemist>, I was in fact assuming that White's Knight could get away; I was looking at a possible Knight sac by Black. Doesn't matter now, I suppose. |
| Mar-03-07 | | Monoceros: Well, you'd have to adjourn to a carefully controlled environment: a cubicle with Lexan walls, no electrical outlets, and a constant guard. Think Magneto's "plastic prison" at the end of the _X-Men_ movie. |
Mar-03-07
 | | Domdaniel: Draw very soon. Time factor. Black still winning, but... |
Mar-03-07
 | | Tomlinsky: Oops no. There's Nd5+ to spoil that idea. |
Mar-03-07
 | | plang: He doesn't have a perpetual. |
Mar-03-07
 | | JointheArmy: This is where bullet on ICC pays off. |
Mar-03-07
 | | chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for coming by today. The next round is Sunday (tomorrow) morning at 9:30am (USA/Eastern). Hope to see everybody here! |
Mar-03-07
 | | Marmot PFL: Exciting game but a dissapointing finish. |
| Mar-03-07 | | iron maiden: Draw. Everybody breathe deeply... |
Mar-03-07
 | | chancho: Draw official. |
Mar-03-07
 | | Tomlinsky: <cjrubiks> *nod* Thanks. Probably why I'm looking at a web sitw and these guys are in Spain. :) |
| Mar-03-07 | | you vs yourself: Topalov's tenacity pays off! |
Mar-03-07
 | | Domdaniel: Yep. Ca y est.
Bring back adjournments AND let the engines in, is the solution, I say... |
Mar-03-07
 | | plang: Why couldn't Topalov play Ka5 and take a pawn if checked |
| Mar-03-07 | | Kampfisk: I was right,Ivan did inch to a draw, only just... |
Mar-03-07
 | | Eyal: A real shame for Chucky - he was playing extremely well and then the clock ruined his winning chances. |
Mar-03-07
 | | TheAlchemist: Well, the conditions are the same for everybody, but the do have too little time to play endings with great precision. Although the players have adjusted a bit, it's still a problem. |
Mar-03-07
 | | Tomlinsky: <An Englishman> I think the knight sac idea works or at least no worse than the game result anyway. Looking at it out of interest. |
Mar-03-07
 | | An Englishman: Goodbye, all. Fun set of games today. |
| Mar-03-07 | | malthrope: <plang: Why couldn't Topalov play Ka5 and take a pawn if checked?> The problem is if the Topster maneuvers and moves 77. Kb5 (to avoid the 3-fold rep) and after 77... Qb7+ he then plays 78. Kxa4 (note not 78. Kc4 Qb3#) then 78... Qd7+! wins (79. Qxd7 then of course 79... Nxc5+)... ;-) - Mal |

Mar-03-07
 | | plang: Thanks, nice variation. |
| Mar-03-07 | | pawnofdoom: Why does this game say "Uncommon Opening" when its a Sicilian kan? |
| Mar-03-07 | | malthrope: <pawnofdoom: Why does this game say "Uncommon Opening" when its a Sicilian kan> B-e-c-a-u-s-e... this was one of the three 'live' games featured today on CG.com for Round #9 at Linares (along with Carlsen-Aronian and Svidler-Anand). As a result, this being the last game to be featured, CG.com hasn't adjusted it yet as all the 'live' games presented are preset with 'Uncommon Opening (Aoo)', etc. <plang: Thanks, nice variation.> You're welcome <plang>! :-) - Mal |
