Kibitzer's Corner
May-11-07  Whitehat1963: Cop out ending.
May-11-07  karik: Howcome they allowed the draw? True, the position is drawish, because of the opposite colored bishops, but mate is still possible!
May-11-07  Whitehat1963: <karik>, are you being serious? Mate is impossible with just king and bishop. In fact it's impossible even with King + 2 knights v. King.
May-11-07  sheaf: <whitehat1963>helpmate is possible with opposite color bishops. with same color bishops even that is not possible.
May-11-07  malthrope: Correct <sheaf> I should also add to <CRWynn> satirical comments (based on the possibility of a BOOC helpmate) to <Whitehat1963> that mate with 'K + 2N's vs. K' is not impossible it's just highly improbable (the defender must blunder to allow it) by current standards! ~lol~ Regards, - Mal

PS: A problem aficionado from the time I started playing and solving chess problems a long time ago... ;-)

May-11-07  Yuri54: <Whitehat1963> Mate with two knights is not impossible, it just can't be forced if the opposing king is on the right square.
May-11-07  dumbgai: At the very least, the two players might have agreed to the draw here. Too bad I don't think I'll ever see a GM get helpmated in this type of endgame though.
May-11-07  weisyschwarz: Dang...Adams missed 12...f5! :-)
May-12-07  aragorn69: <CRWynn> LOL
