 | | Wolfgang01: Thus you will never become world-champion Michael!!
Bobby Fischer and Alexander Alekhine would have continued fighting. Pull yourself together!! You can make it!! |
| May-27-07 | | mandar: <wolfgang>I suppose this was a high class fighting game played by two superb grand masters.
White just didnt take the risk becoz of Queen and Rook threats on King on g2.And of course u cant say that becoz of one game,Mickey cannot be WC!! |
| May-27-07 | | PinkPanther: You know, I know I might catch some flak for this, but I'm off the Adams bandwagon. I will still cheer for him a bit, and I wish him well, but I have come to grips with the fact that the guy will always be a loser on the upper levels of chess. Always a bridesmaid, never a bride, as they say. Watching Adams play in tournaments is always the same, and it will always have the same ending: One that doesn't have him in first place. He often starts out well in tournaments, and in games too, only to choke and let his good results and positions crumble. It was a nice 3 or 4 years, Michael, but I'm done. And no, I'm not becoming a fan of anybody else, I'm just resigning interest in chess. |

 | | JointheArmy: <PinkPanther> Same goes towards Ponomariov as well? |
| May-28-07 | | PinkPanther: I never cared about Ponomariov as much as Adams, I just never took that out of my profile. I'm too lazy and don't really care. |
| May-28-07 | | thewolf: PinkPanther you make some good points i am starting to wonder about Adams as well.He seems to lack the killer instinct recently to really push on and perhaps has settled for a level below needed to be a World Champion. |
| May-28-07 | | Squares: Come on chaps, pull those socks up! It's a long fight, best of six remember! Mickey is pacing himself, just needs to convert more. |
| May-28-07 | | PinkPanther: Mickey isn't "pacing" himself, he's showing me --- yet again --- that he has no killer instinct. AT ALL. |

 | | keypusher: <Pink Panther> <Mickey isn't "pacing" himself, he's showing me --- yet again --- that he has no killer instinct. AT ALL.> Yawn...another internet tough guy. Pink Panther, if YOU had to play Shirov in a high-profile match, you'd soil your trousers. So shut up, OK? |
| May-28-07 | | PinkPanther: And yeah...the prospect of losing a chess game really terrifies me, OH NO. |
| May-28-07 | | AlfieNoakes: As another Englishman and Adams supporter, I know what you mean; he just doesn't look like he's world champion calibre and he doesn't look like he's hungry enough to be either. Maybe that's his problem. It seems he's not been on form for such a long time now, it's frustrating. |
| May-28-07 | | Jim Bartle: You guys commenting may be more passionate about Adams' chess than Adams is. |
| May-28-07 | | gmgomes: I would like to see Adams qualyfing for Mexico; I do believe he will beat Shirov (both are very far from their best), but I do not see chances against Aronian. |
May-28-07
 | | chancho: Well, I hope Shirov get's to play in Mexico. The poor schmuck deserves a break. |

 | | keypusher: <Well, I hope Shirov get's to play in Mexico. The poor schmuck deserves a break.> Agree. |

 | | suenteus po 147: I don't think defeating Adams will be the hard part for Shirov. I think it will be defeating Aronian. |
May-28-07
 | | chancho: <suenteus po 147> That will be a huge undertaking for Shirov, that's for sure. |
| May-28-07 | | princeofdragons: I don't think defeating <Shirov> will be the hard part for <Adams>. I think it will be defeating Aronian. |
May-28-07
 | | chancho: Not that it means anything in this match, but Shirov has done well against Adams. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches... |
| May-28-07 | | mack: Adams is an exceptional player, but I fear that <PinkPanther> is right. He's never tried harder than he has had to. Mickey is Paul Gascoigne. |
| May-28-07 | | PinkPanther: I wouldn't be surprised if Adams won against both Shirov and Aronian (I think Aronian is HIGHLY overrated), but even if he does, I already know what will happen: He'll go to Mexico and finish in last place or next to last like he did in San Luis in 2004. |
| May-28-07 | | PinkPanther: Michael "I'm just in it for the paycheck and to basically maintain my rating" Adams. |
| May-29-07 | | Pulse: <PinkPanther: Michael "I'm just in it for the paycheck and to basically maintain my rating" Adams.> Except it's his only ways of making money and he's good at it, so wouldn't you expect him to play chess for the paycheck? It's kind of weird how you're attacking him because he's doing his job. Or do you expect him to play chess "for a higher purpose?" Oh, woe is the day that a top-10 player plays chess only for money! Oh, come on. .. They're good at it, so why can't they make money off of it? This makes me wonder why you don't criticize people like Alex Rodriguez, with his ~25 million contract over 10 years. Makes one swing of a bat and makes more money than many do over a year. |
| May-29-07 | | martinshortsays: I get the sense from reading his interviews that he (Adams) enjoys chess and the lifestyle it affords him, but at the same time, he's not consumed by it which is very cool by my standards. |
| May-29-07 | | mack: <martinshort>
Yes, it is quite cool. And I can't help but feel that if through some convoluted sequence involving time machines and robots I became a top-10 GM, I would be exactly the same. It's just that we're used to perennial English sporting failures going out in a blaze of glory, not with a whimper. |
