Jun-11-07  Brown: <prinsallan> In their primes, plenty. Karpov, Fischer, Smyslov, etc.
Jun-11-07  newton296: after 22) Qg3! leaving the knight hung which protects the rook which is under attack by blacks Q I soon realized how tricky and tactical this line is and that it is beyond my board vision . crazy ! Wish I could sak 3 pawns and a knight and feel confident that I had looked ahead and found a win like jn ! this game is amazing!
Jun-11-07  djmercury: I wonder if Fritz is really lost at move 50 or he misplayed that complex endgame and a draw was still possible to achieve.

Marmot PFL: <Did Fritz really play 84...Kg5?? Wow! What happened?>

Bad as it is there is nothing better.

Jun-11-07  kingsindian2006: around 25 moves for the computer to bring the pawn on the H file up 3 spaces... only a computer could firgure out that.... for junior to sac. 3 pawns and possibily a knight for a kill.. thats scary..I hope I robot doesnt come true...lol
Jun-12-07  prinsallan: <brown> I surely wouldn't ;D
Jun-12-07  realbrob: More sense of the position for Deep Junior, Deep Fritz grabbed that 3 pawns in the opening and didn't develop its pieces.. Big initiative for White as a result of this.

At a much higher level that reminds me of some positional mistakes of my Arasan 9.5..

Jun-12-07  Whitehat1963: What if 23. Bf5? Looks really good for white in my (mostly defective) eyes. If black moves the rook it is lost. So, what's the best counter?
Jun-12-07  prinsallan: <Whitehat1963> At 23 there's no bishop who can reach f5. So your eyes must be defective ^^
Jun-12-07  Whitehat1963: See? I meant 23. Bh5.
Jun-12-07  dabearsrock1010: I personally wonder if this match has any significant impact on the popularity of the engines amongst the public...I mean it probably would right? the makers of fritz probably lost some money after the results of this match
Jun-12-07  Whitehat1963: <Crafty>, what happens after 23. Bh5? Call me crazy, but I think that's a winning move. What have I overlooked?

Jun-12-07  Karpova: 23.Bh5? fxe4 24.Bf7+ (<24.Bxe8? Qxd2) Kh8 25.Rdf2 Rd8 26.Bc7 Qc5 27.Bxd8 Nxd8
Jun-12-07  cotdt: where did fritz go wrong?
Jun-12-07  spirit: me understand the knight sac, but what gets me is the 3-pawn gift to Herr fritz...me think 21...Nc6 would have been better for Fritz
Jun-12-07  Sboldm7: Whitehat1963: After 84)Rd7, it's zugzwang. Every move drops a piece. It's the maneuvering to that position that blows me away.
Jun-13-07  prinsallan: <Whitehat1963> Usually you dont make these mistakes, so I had to grab the opportunity ^^

Peace man and have a great summer!

Jul-09-07  Enforc3r: Why didnt Fritz go 22.. fxe4. Can someone tell me what Junior would do if that happened?
Jul-09-07  scholes: <enforc3r> see rybka-shredder wccc 2007 game where shredder played 22 ..fxe4 and lost faster,by the way fritz was in book till move nor 29

outplayer: <chessmoron> Shirov vs Ftacnik, 1997 is not a sicilian.
Jul-14-08  who: No, but Shirov vs Ftacnik, 2006 is.
Jul-01-11  zdigyigy: why cannot the knight be snatched on blacks 23rd move?
