Jun-21-07  david101: I'm not sure if this is a great game as well. It seems like some moves were purely random.
Jun-21-07  Balaurul: The only think remotely nice in this game is the Black's queen trap
Jun-21-07  spacetimereality: How's this a bad game? White played all right, surely he is no 1400. I especially liked the double rook & bishop ending. Very nice!
Jun-21-07  mack: I met somebody the other day who had *never* heard of Frank Zappa. I decided shortly after that I couldn't be their friend.

That said, Big Frank wasn't a massive fan of the Royal Game:

< "I think the overall impact of THAT group would be that it was between pseudo-jazette and cranial. And the people who were in the band at that time - with a couple of exceptions - were genuinely boring people. I mean, I don't appreciate a band that likes to play chess in their off-stage hours. If you have to spend a lot of time with people who are interested in their chess boards and little card games and @#$% like that, it can drive you nuts.">

Jun-21-07  kellmano: Yeah, I thought it was a good game that had a nice flow to it. Flicking through the moves, I liked the impact of Nd6 and also enjoyed black's finish with two rooks and two bishops.

It was not immediately obvious who was winning until near the end.

Jun-21-07  Jack Kerouac: "She had a snake for a pet,
and an amulet,
and she was breeding a dwarf,
but she wasn't done yet.
She had grey-green skin,
and a doll with a pin.
I told her she was alright,
but I couldn't come in...."
(Actually she was rather useless in this game.)
Jun-21-07  Timothy Glenn Forney: Watch out where the huskies go, and dont you eat that yellow snow :) Love Zappa RIP.
Jun-21-07  MarvinTsai: 33.Rg1 what's that? I think it's a buggy move.
Jun-21-07  kevin86: I like the theme of:

1 chasing the king into a discovered check-(BOO) the piece to do the checking is unguarded and pinned

2 the discovered check is made-blocking the pin and attack on the checking piece.---and

3 attacking the pinning piece-and winning it.

The theme itself was worth the price of admission.

al wazir: Why didn't white play 45. Kg2 ? Did Zeppo think it was winning?

Oh, I guess black has 45...Be3.

playground player: Am I the only one who doesn't care which computer wins?
Jun-21-07  Tomlinsky: <playground player: Am I the only one who doesn't care which computer wins?>

There are at least two computers that probably couldn't give a hoot either.

Open Defence: "maybe you should live with yo mama! .... coz if you play the game you will be beat - FZ"

Jun-21-07  Tomlinsky: HIARCS has just left the building,
Those are his footprints right there.
HIARCS has just left the building,
To climb up that binary stair.
He conquers the best of them once in a while,
Has pawns in his underpants yes he has style.
Cherabim and seraphim fly over his head,
Oh please bring him back we don't want HIARCS dead.

HIARCS has just left the building....

* Altogether now *

Jun-21-07  weisyschwarz: Erdo is Moon Unit's younger brother.
Jun-21-07  schnarre: I still remember when the late Frank Zappa was involved in that censorship case in the 80s (along with Dee Schneider & John Denver)--as I recall VH1 did a program on that...ah. memories.
Jun-21-07  Jake Robertson: That game was horrid, black did ok, but some of its moves were intolerably bad, and white was just aweful
Jun-21-07  actionhero56: i can't believe this was played in 2007, it looks like an early computer game, maybe in the early eighties or even the 70s.

chessgames.com: <syracrophy: There's something wrong on the score sheet. Above it says Zappa (Computer), but in the score sheet it says: "Erdo (Computer)"> Erdo is the screen-name of a user from ICC who runs Zappa on his account. His profile indicates that he uses a 64 bit, Intel Core 2 Duo 2750 Mhz.
