Aug-01-07  gmgomes: Thanks!!!!!
Aug-01-07  Colt Seavers: thanks a lot CG..!
Aug-01-07  vlado23: how does van Wely win back the piece?
Aug-01-07  MorphysMojo: Wow, did not expect such a short draw from Radjabov w/ white.
Aug-01-07  emmi: Thanks!!
Aug-01-07  Billy Ray Valentine: I think this looks drawish to me... If black tries to hang onto the extra piece, I think white gets a perpetual check draw. Am I missing something?

technical draw: This looks like an easy win for Carlsen.
Aug-01-07  cuendillar: I don't think Carlsen can afford to accept that sacrifice. 17.fxe4 exf4 18.exd5 Qxd5 19.Qxh7 Kf8 20.Rxf4+ Bf7 21.Bg6 and white looks winning (21.Qh8+ Ke7 22.Qxg7 Rg8 23.Qe5+ is also playable)

Where can black improve on this? Carlsen's in trouble now

Aug-01-07  tarlan13: Guys, consider the move Bxe5. I think Van Wely is doing the same.
Aug-01-07  gmgomes: Any evaluation at deep level? my engine initially thought Carlsen was better, but it tends to 0.00 at deep thought!

technical draw: CG.C Can you get another photo of Van Wely? It looks like he's glaring at me.

Robin01: Anybody have a computer evaluation of this position? Thanks.
Aug-01-07  Billy Ray Valentine: <cuendillar: I don't think Carlsen can afford to accept that sacrifice. 17.fxe4 exf4 18.exd5 >

Here I was looking at 18...g6 for black. This of course allows a Bishop sacrifice on g6 with a perpetual check for white.

What am I misisng?

+0.19 @ depth 17.

Aug-01-07  cuendillar: Another variation, no better for black 18.fxe4 exf4 19.exd5 g6 20.Bxg6 hxg6 21.Qxg6+ Kf8 (...Kh8 22.Rxf4 and mate) 22.Qf6+ Bf7 23.Rxf4 and mate

Marmot PFL: Concensus seems to be that Bxe5 gives Van Wely at least enough to draw.
Aug-01-07  gandu: The best line for White seems to be Bf4xe5 (Fritz: +0.79)
Aug-01-07  Colt Seavers: Shredder 9 .

= (+0.27) 16/49 285 kn/s

1.Bxe5 Bf7 2.Qh4 Rxe5 3.dxe5 Nxc3 4.Qxh7+ Kf8 5.Qh8+ Ke7 6.Qxg7 Ne2+ 7.Kh1 Nxc1 8.Qf6+ Ke8 9.e6 Bh5 10.g4 Nd3 11.gxh5 Qc5 12.h6 Qf8 13.Qg7 Qxg7 14.hxg7

Aug-01-07  chessamateur: I might get criticized for this but IMO its far more fun to try and figure who's better and why, than take the easy way out and go for an engine evulation. Sorry just something I've needed to get off my chest for awhile.
Aug-01-07  vlado23: Carlen might try to get in Bf7 followed by Bg6

lostemperor: So I was saying (at the Biel page) <cuendillar>: you know Carlsen accepts anything (even a poisoned pawn:))

But anyway carlsen has taken the Knight is taken and if now 17. ... exf4 maybe a Zwischenzug like 18.g6 seems ok. But you're right that won't lose a

Aug-01-07  Shekhinah: Bxe5? now Nf6!

lostemperor: But I see Fritz and Shredder have already improve on my variation;)
Aug-01-07  CapablancaFan: Just got here, I see the knight on e4 is pinned and g6 wont help b/c Qh7. What should be black's plan?

  sofouuk: now 18 Bf7 19 Qh4 and black has a big decision - Bxe5/Nf6/Bg6
