42...Qa2 43 Rxf6!

Sep-18-07  you vs yourself: Nice to see everyone trying to win. Makes the tournament much more exciting. Probably very few people predicted that Grischuk and Gelfand would be in this position, after 5 rounds just 1/2 pt off the lead and tied with Kramnik.

bumpmobile: Rxf6 is also a threat since after the bishop takes, white has Qg6+.

twinlark: Aronian's goose is cooked, his duck is plucked, but his pluck is undiminished.
Sep-18-07  Resignation Trap: <twinlark> No foul language, please!
Sep-18-07  CapablancaFan: Hey, everyone, just got home from work, but I'm not the one who seems to be having a bad day. Aronian's position looks VERY, VERY, SHAKY!
Sep-18-07  badest: <you vs yourself> well, everyone except Kramnik :) ... so nice to see that there is a "chuk" playing fighting chess (almost in the spirit of the one and only I-chuk!)

ketchuplover: Doesn't Aronian have the better position?

Marmot PFL: Qxa6 looks OK now, and d6 loose then too.
Sep-18-07  chessamateur: <ketchuplover> If you mean better position to tip his king over and resign, then yes.

What would you do against the bishop opening??

Sep-18-07  chessamateur: With the dynamic position he won't resign yet of course

How do you figure? He is down material and his King is vulnerable.

twinlark: Gelfand can take his queen and do some pawn grazing behind the lines now. Aronian can't queen his c pawn or extract any advantage from it.

  outplayer: 43.Bd1!
Sep-18-07  CapablancaFan: <ketchuplover: Doesn't Aronian have the better position?> Hard to say. He does have a passer that Gelfand has do deal with, but it's gonna take work to make something of it. Will be good to see other people's opinions on this.
Sep-18-07  ajile: Rh5 with the idea of Qh7 takes advantage of Black's Nd7.
Sep-18-07  Resignation Trap: A goose, a duck, a lark, and now a plover!
This game is strictly for the birds!

plang: I'll be surprised if he takes the a pawn; he has an immediate kingside attack on the light squares.
Sep-18-07  badest: Well, he could have tried for a few more moves (ok, so maybe the open file is not enough... but it just seemed that he was content with the draw... which is sad because Leko has not been playing great)

twinlark: My calculator says that if Gelfand plays 43.Qxa6 he'll be +5.0, or the equivalent of a Rook ahead.

technical draw: No, No, No.. I picked a one draw bet. If someone wins this game I'll be outta the cellar. Oh dear me!
Sep-18-07  chessmoron: Qxa6 and the game is over.

Leko - Kramnik is already drawn you should pray that Gelfand wins here.
