jeff sarwer: Ah yes, the other Waitzkin game :)
I dont recall ever playing any other tournament games against him, except the "famous" SFBF draw. I remember liking to give him 5-2 time odds in Blitz though....:) He has been a wonderful ambassador for Chess and Tai-Chi. Seems like he turned into a very positive person.
Oct-02-07  Bobsterman3000: Tai Chi must translate as "the art of giving away pawns with no specific compensation..."
Oct-02-07  MaxxLange: Wasn't Waitzkin's rating more like 1700 in 1985?
Jan-16-08  sentriclecub: I have positive respect for both J Sarwer and J Waitzkin.
Jun-20-08  MJW 72: a typical win against someone who really doesnt know how to coordinate the pieces
Sep-25-08  afterbirth: For all the hype surrounding Josh, he sure did lose a lot of games--at least the ones featured here in the database. I think he was sensationalized as a child prodigy and once he was no longer a child he transitioned into something he was better at (martial arts). I'm sure if he kept winning he would've kept on playing competitive chess. Not that I'm berating him for it. Not every child prodigy can grow up to be Bobby Fischer, even if they make a movie about you with the same name.
Sep-25-08  RookFile: Well, like I always said: at the age of 15, Bobby Fischer reached a playing strength that Waitzkin <never> reached. It was a terrible idea to compare Waitzkin to Fischer in the first place, and I don't blame Waitzkin for getting out of chess and doing something else.
Jun-29-09  WhiteRook48: not really the new Fischer
