May-17-08   pawnofdoom: Is this a real trap? Or some random game where the queen gets trapped...

9. ... Nxe4 seemed like a weird Queen sac to me. I don't know if it was purposely intended or not. Or black jsut happened to win material back.

SwitchingQuylthulg: <pawnofdoom> 9...Nxe4!? is theory and was certainly intentional. 12.Kf1? is of course a blunder, but 11.Qe5?! was already too greedy - better is 11.bxc3 as in Y Gruenfeld vs E Prie, 1990, which leads to a highly complicated position after 11...Bxc3+ 12.Kf1 Bxa1 13.Bxc7 Bxd4

Evaluating this position is far from easy but Black looks no worse and won in the above game Grünfeld-Prie (while J Bick vs G Welling, 1996 was drawn).
