waustad: It really has the feeling of a game with a GM vs somebody like me. Everything I want to do has already been prevented and a feeling of helplessness takes over. Nothing is where I want it to be because something tactical prevented me from putting it there. Bummer.
May-27-12  Sularus: nice one, phony!
May-27-12  offramp: Wasn't this the year that Capaablanca made a 10-0 score?

Phony Benoni: <offramp> This was the first of two national-level events Capablanca played at New York in 1913. He started this event 10-0, but lost to Jaffe in round 11 and finished with draws against Chajes and Marshall, ending up 1/2-point ahead of the latter.

In the Summer, Capablanca was credited with a 13-0 score at the Rice Chess Club Summer Tournament. I put it that way because two of the players withdrew very early (after rounds 1 and 4), but their games were included as losses in the final crosstable instead of being cancelled and disregarded. This allowed Capablanca to match Lasker's 13-0 feat at New York 1893. (He actually did face one of the dropouts, so scored 12-0 in games actually played.)

May-27-12  ChessMystery: Wow, that was amazing, very cool game by Capa :)
May-27-12  goodevans: The best thing about this game is the pun. A contender for my all time top favourite list.

Of course Capa's play was exemplary but his opponent made a succession of really poor decisions. Capa put him into positions where he had to think and he showed himself to not be up to the task.

May-27-12  Llawdogg: That pin would have bothered me enough to put my bishop on e2 right away and then castle. That was ridiculous.

Abdel Irada: To judge by Zapoleon's play, an entire colony of black cats must have crossed his path before this chessic Waterloo.
May-27-12  ChessMystery: I think the biggest mistake of white here was to give up its queenside so fast and so easy, is that right?
May-27-12  Rook e2: Capa tortured him. LOUIS B ZAPOLEON has no wins in the database, but he has a draw against Marshall
May-27-12  LoveThatJoker: Awesome game by the budding WC Capablanca!

:D

Honza Cervenka: 18.Rc1 looks like a decisive mistake. Instead of that 18.Na7 forcing black to sac an exchange was much better.
May-27-12  phoenix of zeravand: black finishing it realy beautiful
