jessicafischerqueen: o0pu <Carlsen> just played a gambit offering up his c-pawn
Jan-12-08  square dance: <would actually lose to 10...Bxc3+> it sure does.
Jan-12-08  square dance: i may have to consider giving up analysis altogether. ;-)

  brankat: A couple of questions:

1. In Radjabov - Anand game. Does Radjabov have a sufficient compensation for the pawn?

2. The Sicilian variation played in Mamedyarov - Carlsen game. Does it have a name? :-)

Jan-12-08  MorganV2851: brankat: look at anands king... it has nowhere safe on the board to go.... (granted, the real attack hasnt started yet) -- compensation
Jan-12-08  drawocoward: But in the anand game. How will the attack commence after e5, for instance?
Jan-12-08  Mateo: According to the Opening Explorer, 6...g5 is already a novelty.
Jan-12-08  MorganV2851: drawocoward: look at anands light squares, they are all weak, and raja still has his LSB...that is one factor... over the next 10 moves both sides will be making moves around one factor: blacks king... if anand can castle long and plug up some holes, he can draw and even win the endgame...

brankat: <MorganV2851> Regarding Anand's King. Yes, I know. So I wonder if this gives Radjabov enough of a compensation. If the "attack" doesn't materialize, White will later feel that extra pawn of Black's.

Btw, Anand's King is actually centralized -)

Jan-12-08  popski: <brankat> why are you so ignorant?!

suenteus po 147: Patzer question: In Kramnik's position, would it be wise to work toward a queenside castle, or is it better not to castle at all and focus on building an attack?

brankat: >popski> Ignorant? About what? The issue of compensation is always a valid one after an accepted gambit.
Jan-12-08  MorganV2851: <suenteus> kingside castle, most likely. followed by standard positional play (space advantage, weak squares, etc...)
Jan-12-08  whatthefat: <suenteus po 147>

It's a good question. I guess ...dxc4 and ...b5 is coming, so White may not want to castle queenside too hastily. I was earlier wondering about 9.fxg3, intending e3, Bd3, 0-0, with pressure on the f-file and down the weakened light squares on the kingside, since that would at least settle where the white king is going. Of course, White's e-pawn would be a long-term weakness, but White often plays for a similar position in the Kasparov Nimzo (4.Nf3) when Black responds with ...h6/...g5/...Ne4.

Some exciting chess games today! :) Kramnik doesn't look like a lamb in this one... ~lol~ He looks more like a lion on the hunt! ;)

PS: <ketchuplover: play nice now children!>

Sound advice, otherwise the 'automated refreshing chessboard' is taken suddenly away! We wouldn't want *that* now would we? :^)

Jan-12-08  Mateo: The point of 11...Rb8 is not clear. Maybe in connection with b5 at some point.
