Jan-12-08  zluria: Why do player's agree to draws in positions like this?
Jan-12-08  SniperOnG7: Because they felt like it :/

goldenbear: Because they want to save energy in a position where a draw will definately occur, barring any major error. I wonder about 16.Re6!?. Obviously, if 16.Qd7, then 17.d5. And if 16.f5, then g4!?. It's times like these that I wish I had a good chess program.

goldenbear: I am one move off in that last post. I was wondering about 17.Re6.

goldenbear: Actually, 17.Re6 Qd7, then no need for d5, Rxe4 is the move, obviously. But still, 17.Re6 f5 18.g4 is interesting.

acirce: Most attention was focused on the possibility of an exchange sac with 17.Bxe4!? Not sure how great it is, but the way Ivanchuk played he got nothing at all, of course.

goldenbear: <acirce> 17.Bxe4 is also an interesting idea. I think that is probably very good for White. What do you think about 17.Re6? Am I missing something?

Compare this with the game continuation after 18...Nd5

When Dennis Monokroussos says 'The poor bishop g2...what could have been!

He suggests that Ivanchuk needs more confidence in the big tournaments.

Jan-12-08  cionics: I found this one a bit of a yawner. They need to get more aggressive!
