| Jan-20-08 | | TheBB: <technical draw>
The precise wording is
<Any player who does not shake hands with the opponent (or greets the opponent in a normal social manner in accordance with the conventional rules of their society)> So unless shaking hands with dogcrap is considered normal social manner, you might just find yourself on the receiving end of said rule. |

 | | chessic eric: 61...Kg5 |
Jan-20-08
 | | tamar: "normal social behavior" for chessplayers is a can of worms. |
Jan-20-08
 | | MindCtrol9: <Caelsen is not playing this final good> |
Jan-20-08
 | | chessic eric: <tamar> ha! |
Jan-20-08
 | | chessic eric: <MindCtrol9> Then what is the winning plan? |
Jan-20-08
 | | TheAlchemist: <That hand shaking is a good rule. I'll stick my hand in dog do-do and win every game!> How about some hand buzzer or whatever you call those? |
Jan-20-08
 | | MindCtrol9: <I think Calrsen found the way how to win this final with his last move> |
Jan-20-08
 | | dan5791: the winning plan is to make Gelfand run out of time and flag falls |
Jan-20-08
 | | chessic eric: don't they get another 1/2 hour after move 60? |
Jan-20-08
 | | dan5791: yeah, another half hour and victory is in hand |
Jan-20-08
 | | melianis: <Ulhumbrus> Sure looks like one as if f.e. Rf4 Re7 the king can't escape the checks to the queenside, and if the king tries to support the pawns in front of them it looks like they're all coming off starting with g3 fxg Kxg. I'm off, though I'll check afterwards if Magnus pulls out even some more magic than Bf1 and g4. |
Jan-20-08
 | | MindCtrol9: <The winning plan is what he did,to cut the black King.White must keep the Rook in that horizontal line right now.Black must run out of good moves> |
Jan-20-08
 | | MindCtrol9: <Well,I see he does not have a real plan,or needs more technic to win this> |
Jan-20-08
 | | chessic eric: draw from official site. |
Jan-20-08
 | | tamar: In any case, I am sure Kramnik will be a wise and fair arbiter of the appeal :)) |
Jan-20-08
 | | ketchuplover: Why not push the pawn? |
Jan-20-08
 | | chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for coming by today. Please remember, tomorrow is a rest day. The action continues on Tuesday morning at 7:30am (USA/Eastern). Hope to see you then! |
| Jan-20-08 | | Nepa Pugna: I don't believe there's any reason for this game not to be drawn. |
Jan-20-08
 | | MindCtrol9: <I reviewed the game now,and I can say that from move 53,he did not know how to win> |
Jan-20-08
 | | whiteshark: So Gelfand is now +1 =4 -0 vs Carlsen with classic time control. :D |
| Jan-20-08 | | TheBB: <ketchuplover: Why not push the pawn?> e4 Kf6 e5+ Ke5, and now what? |
Jan-20-08
 | | zapzowie: C didn't shake S's hand because of bad blood that goes back to the Kramnik-Topalov world championship match. S severely criticized Topalov's behavior in that match. C was Topalov's second in the match. Therefore no handshake. |
| Jan-21-08 | | znprdx: <Nepa Pugna: I'm not sure but to me it looks like Gelfand might draw with either three fold repetition>IF 61.Ra5 had been played (which seems logical by cutting off Black King)THEN it would be same position as 63.White to move. Since the 3-fold repetition rule applies to (a photographable position with the same player to move) you can see how complex it can become keeping track of various re-occurring sequences in order to claim the draw, because it is not necessarily the move sequence itself as most often happens in the more commonplace perpetual check. Hopefully someone will post a final assessment of this game after 41.Rxh5
>Up pawn: up game< I thought was the grandmaster's rule-of-thumb |
| Jan-21-08 | | aktajha: Nah, not with pawns on the same side of the boards with a low amount of pieces and kings nearby. Then it's more often than not a draw. |
