Maybe it all started to fall down for black after in this position he played 21. ..Qd7. click for larger viewWhite bishop in f4 and queen in g3 sure look dangerous, but protecting the d6 pawn with 21. ..Ne8 might have been a better bet. White's game still looks a little better, so how to keep pushing now? 22. Nb5/Rd1? Bxc2 - nah, no good.
22. Re1 is much better, maybe I'd try this one. Here's what this position looks like. click for larger viewBlack has to move his queen, but not too far away from his bishop in f5. So, it's 22. ..Qf6/Qf7/Qf8. Don't know which one of those moves is best for black, but I'd play 22. ..Qf7. This move gives the knight in e8 some more options. In any case Fedorov played well, hats off! |
