percyblakeney: This was a very interesting game, first Safarli sacrifices the exchange and then from 33. ... e3 things heat up even more. Safarli sacrifices also a bishop, but Caruana declines and that was probably the right thing to do, even if he misses to play fxe3 at some occasion, and get into more trouble.

41. Qe6+ seems to give drawing chances but Caruana avoids it, and from then on black is winning. A very well played game by Safarli (as Caruana born in 1992).

Feb-19-08   HOTDOG: I and some other Italians friends analyzed the game;Caruana was slightly better until move 37,although perhaps taking the exchange with 27.Nxe8 was better.however in zeitnot Caruana blundered with 37.fxe3?(37.Bc3!)but still had drawing chances:but 41.Kh1? is a mistake;better was 41.Qe6+ Kg7 42.Qd7+ Kh6 43.Qxd5 and there is not a clear win for Black, for example 43...Qb6+ 44.Kh1 Ng3+ 45.Kg2 Qb2+ 46.Kg3 Qxa1,with a Queen ending with an extra pawn for Black, not easy to win.then things became worse and worse for White, although Safarli missed a quick win with 50...Qe5+! 51.Qxe5 Ng4+ 52...Nxe5

grasser: Whats wrong with 13...Bxe5 going up a piece?
Sep-05-09   cracknik: Why not 53... Qg2+ Qxg2 Nxg2 Kxg2 C3 as the rook cannot stop 2 connected passers on the sixth.

ganstaman: <grasser: Whats wrong with 13...Bxe5 going up a piece?>

I have the exact same question. I checked with chesslab.com and it has the same moves, so it's probably not an error in the pgn. But I simply can't figure it out.

<cracknik: Why not 53...Qg2+ 54. Qxg2 Nxg2 55. Kxg2 c3> and then 56. Kf2. With the king coming over to the advanced pawns, I'm not sure they can promote. Do you have a specific line that you think wins for black from here? Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't find it.

Sep-24-09   cracknik: Your right ganstaman. Kf2 and my line is a bust. To be honest though I had a few too many when I posted that.
