Landman: I suspect Topalov's more likely to go for Nxf7 at some point than an "ordinary" GM. Perhaps that's what Carlsen is hoping for.
Feb-20-08  Gameoverziggy: Since when did we start talking about computers and I very much doubt that Alkehines Defence is anti computer

Marmot PFL: Good for Magnus. It's been a while since I've seen an Alekhine in top level play.
Feb-20-08  grebenarov: What do the engines say about 7.Nxf7 anybody??
Feb-20-08  grebenarov: Darn the show was stopped
Feb-20-08  just a kid: <from my last post>Well maybe 8.Qh5+ Kg8 9.Bc4?
Feb-20-08  Gameoverziggy: Topalov isn't some patzer that will play nxf7 the best he could do with that against someone against Carlsen's skill is draw maybe. Like the nx7 sac in the petroff its like draw draw black wins black wins black wins black wins draw ratio

Eyal: At the very least Carlsen can be quite certain that he avoided Topalov's home preparation...
Feb-20-08  Bumcrot: Leko and Anand are in a hurry to get to the pool today. They are already at move 20 in a Najdorf and they're each down to 2 rooks, 1 minor piece, and 6 pawns.
Feb-20-08  just a kid: So he exchanged?hmmmmmmmmm?
Feb-20-08  Gameoverziggy: I did not think Topalov would go for the exchange on d7

Marmot PFL: Very similar to a Caro-Kann now.
Feb-20-08  just a kid: Thanks for ruining my prediction Anand.Geez
Feb-20-08  Nepa Pugna: It's asking a lot but I hope Magnus has a few surprises to throw at Topalov and rattle him enough for the point.

Ulhumbrus: In the game Fischer vs Larsen, 1966 Fischer played 6 Nxf7 at once.
Feb-20-08  Gameoverziggy: <In the game Fischer vs Larsen, 1966 Fischer played 6 Nxf7 at once.> That was blitz totally different
Feb-20-08  Hoozits: The last time I saw him play something offbeat, it was the Benko Gambit, and if I recall correctly, his explanation was he chose it because his opening preparation for what he was planning on playing with went south the night before he was scheduled to play. Anyone else remember that?

Eric Schiller: Black looks very comfortable and can castle, play Qc7 and a rook to e8 and then ...e5.

Eyal: <Hoozits> Yeah: <Just before the game Magnus discovered a big hole in his opening preparation and decided to try a Volga line gambit against Van Wely> - hopefully for Magnus that's not the reason he decided to play the Alekhine today...

Jack Kerouac: I like the guts the youngster is showing with this defense. At some point, players need to show 'out-think' if only for the integrity of the game.(Easy for me to say.)
