  lost in space: Here the second game from Noteboom playing "his" variation.

  lost in space: In this game White played in the Noteboom variation 12. Bb2. This is "no respect" move. On b2 the bishop keeps an eye on the center (is active) and obviously white do not fear a4-a3. The "normal" Bd2 is not that active but avoiding the risk to be kicked away from the pawns. I like Bb2 more than Bd2.

The first critical position is reached after 15.e4

Black played the minor move 15...Ng8. Much better was

15...e5 16. 0-0
(16. d5? 0-0 17. 0-0 Rfe8 18. Bc1 a4 19. Be3 b3 and Black is better)

16...0-0 17. c5 exd4 18. Bxd4 b3 19. Qxb3 Bxe4 20. Rfe1 a4 21. Qc4 Bxf3 22. gxf3 Qc6 with an o.k. position for Black

There was one chance for Black afterwards to stay in the game. After 20. d6 we have:

Black played 20...Qd8. Much better was
20...Qc5 21. Be4 Ra7 22. Rfd1 Nb6 22. Bxf5 gxf5 24. Bd4 Qc6 and Black's position is not lost.
