Apr-17-08  reerak: There are so many issues here, 1. how did he go undetected for so long, another 10 moves and the game could've been finished - how did he smuggle the mobile phone in - it must have been very suspicious for him to go to the toilet and check his mobile after every move 2. did he cheat in his previous games? 3. how long should his ban be? I would prefer a life ban. 4. FIDE should definitely try to find out if they can who was sending him the moves, because if that guy was a rated chess master then he should get banned as well 5. and I always thought the internet broadcast should be delayed, but of course the cheater could always stall his game.
Apr-17-08  kackhander: equally, why would a 2300 player need to cheat 10 moves into one of the most extensively analysed openings in existence?
Apr-17-08  MichAdams: Extensively analysed means a surfeit not a paucity of theory. And nothing bespeaks idleness more than the willingness to cheat.
Apr-17-08  Bowf: I think I would have played 9...h6 first, and then 10 Bh4 Ne7. Then the black king has the fine h7 square available if white plays 11 Bxf6.
