Kibitzer's Corner
May-15-08   Riverbeast: Did Galant really play 45. Rb4 ??

The champion of the state of Oklahoma!

May-15-08   Illogic: I think that was just his way of resigning a dead lost position? The move makes no sense on any level; I can't see how it could even be a blunder.

waustad: A West Virginia champ handed me a simple mate in 2 when I was unrated. This is even worse than that if <Illogic>'s explanation is not on target.
May-18-08   RookFile: Well, he can look at the bright side. Some people have been known to resign a drawn position. After Rb4, you don't have to worry about that any more. Of course, this really was a hopeless situation.

  Gilmoy: Haha -- I don't know this opening, so I had to work out the newbie trap. 8.Be3 dxe3?? 9.Bxf7+ Kf8 10.Qd8+ and Black's Q gets forked.

It's like the book trap in Allgaier Gambit: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 <KGA> 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ng5 <Allgaier -- this N has "no escape", hence this is a piece sac line> h6 6.Nxf7 Kxf7 7.Qxg4? <now known to be bad precisely because of the following> Nf6 8.Qxf4 Be6!

<Now not 9.e5? Bxe5 untouchable because of Re8> 9.Qf3 is book.
