Jan-17-19 | | saturn2: The game line with 45 Nd8 seems risky to me:
45...Rxd8 46. c6 g3 47. c7 g2 48. cxd8=Q g1=Q |
|
Jan-17-19 | | dumbgai: The first two moves are obvious, but Nd8 is the tough one to see. Black also put up the best possible defense, seeing how white can win after allowing a black queen is hard. |
|
Jan-17-19 | | unrepentant: Saturn2, glad to see your answer. I thought 43. Nd4 was clearer also. |
|
Jan-17-19 | | drollere: <the simple 45...Be2 also wins> the interesting complication in this position is the competing pawn race, and who wins a decisive tempo with their Q. 45. Be2 Nh2 46. Ne5 g3 does leave black down a piece in a treacherous endgame. |

Jan-17-19 | | Everett: 43.Nd4 seems to be a draw with best play |

1) +132.69 (25 ply) 44.Rxf8 Nxc6 45.Rxf7+ Kg6 46.Rxf4 Na5 47.Rxg4+ Kh6 48.Bb5 Nb7 49.c6 Nd6 50.b7 Nxb5+ 51.Kc4 Na3+ 52.Kc5 Kh5 53.b8=Q Kxg4 54.Qf4+ Kh3 55.Qg3+ Kxg3 |

Jan-27-19 | | Everett: <Beeunor> 43.Nd4 is a white move, by definition of how it’s written |

Feb-06-20 | | EIDorado: It helps if you know two pawns on 6th(3rd) line are stronger than a rook. |

 | | scormus: I was one of those who went with 45 Be2 instead of Nd8 which I thought might allow B to fight back. In fact none of B's attempts would come to anything though it must have taken excellent OTB calculation, accepting that B's g-pawn will queen. Yes, Be2 is winning but not as convincingly as Nd8. |

Feb-06-20 | | electrofam: 25-...Ng3! 26-Nb7 Rd7-+ black win |

Feb-06-20 | | laskereshevsky: Honestly the idea of 43.♖xc8 ♖xc8 44.♙b7 ♖ ~ (after only few seconds of analisys I would probably play ♖e8 instead of ... ♖h8) immediately catches the eye, after a little while I saw 45.♘d8. not so difficult, a tipical tactical procedure in presence of pawns on the 7th or even 6th rank, to cut off the rook from watching promotions squares on the 8th rank.. but after 45.... ♙g3 I did not clearly see how to prevent the promotion at ♕ in g1 ...Here by laziness i stopped my search.. the game showed me that it was not necessary to avoid it :)) |

Feb-06-20 | | TheaN: Knowing this is a repeat I was certain it had to be 45.Nd8, but couldn't find out why 45.Na7 doesn't work, until I saw SF repeat the line I did actually look at last year: 45.Na7? Ne5! 46.Nc8 Nc6 47.Bd5 Rh3+ 48.Kb2 g3 49.Bxc6 g2 50.b8=Q g1=Q 51.Qe5+ Kf8 52.Qe7+ = and White has no more than perpetual. Or well; Black can't avoid it as he's otherwise winning. |
|
Feb-06-20 | | Pedro Fernandez: To begin with, one immediately sees black are lost. Honestly, I have not seen the given solution, and this is my almost instantaneous analysis: 43.Rxc8 Rxc8 44.b7 Rb8 45.Nxb8 g3 46.Bf1 Nh2 47.Bh3 f3 48.Nd7 g2 49.Bxg2 fxg2 50. b8=Q g1=Q 51. Qf8+, etc.
Now I will see the solution but without comments as it is 11:27 pm EDT. |

Feb-07-20 | | WorstPlayerEver: I think it's a draw. |
|
Feb-07-20 | | TheaN: <Pedro Fernandez: To begin with, one immediately sees black are lost.> claiming it's that easy is bollocks, especially if it's fact that the played line leads to a double promotion with Black tempi. There are a lot of tricky attempts for Black. <WorstPlayerEver: I think it's a draw.> however this is just false. Although after 44....Rf8 the Nd8 maneuver doesn't work because then the double Queen endgame isn't won for White, White will win after 45.Be2. The best line apparently runs 43.Rxc8 Rxc8 44.b7 Rf8 45.Be2 Ng5 46.Bxg4 Nxe4+ 47.Kd4 f5 48.Be2 +- where the key is that although Black can sac both pieces for the pawns White is left with B+N, and the f-pawns are no threat. |
