Jul-28-08  offtherook: <boz: Carlsen must be playing to the audience.> I think he's still trying to win or draw. He's had a pretty good undefeated streak, it would be a shame to let it end now.
Jul-28-08  percyblakeney: Hmm, maybe it is drawn with best play after all.

horncabbage: <JohnBoy: <Thorski> - I am a retired climber, and the movie "Touching the Void" is as real as cinema gets. Also, the flick "K2" was far better than the completely silly Cliffhanger.>

Sorry, JohnBoy, K2 is not a legal move.

Jul-28-08  shutupimthinking: Black's bishop now seems to control both sides of the pawn race.

acirce: Probably a draw. Actually I believe all results are possible.
Jul-28-08  Thorski: <JohnBoy> Yes, K2 wasn't bad. Michael Biehn is usually solid, and if you can ignore the cheesy side plots, it was fairly decent. And the climbing is pretty accurate. I've heard Take It To The Limit is the ultimate awful climbing flick, with the riotous line "F@ck this! Lets go top roping!"

Touching the Void was very sobering. Don't think Ill attempt any alpine ascents.

chancho: g3 that pawn is getting more and more dangerous.
Jul-28-08  messachess: Yeh--photo finish; what a game. Can anyone's chess engine calculate this?
Jul-28-08  offtherook: b6, Carlsen's gotta keep his pawns lunging too.
Jul-28-08  percyblakeney: It's a question of finding a couple of only moves for Carlsen with seconds left though.
Jul-28-08  kamalakanta: 74. Be3
Jul-28-08  cyanfish: Should be a draw now, but still chances for mistakes. Re1 and the pawn can't promote.
Jul-28-08  slomarko: is Carlsen seeing something we don't?
Jul-28-08  Gouki: this may well be Carlsen's first loss in a long time...
Jul-28-08  Madman99X: Carlsen can't have any more than about 15 seconds on his clock.
Jul-28-08  Thorski: I don't think Carlsen particularly cares about the overall tournament result, nor his rating, which if true is refreshing.
Jul-28-08  jon01: If b6, then it is -1.28
Jul-28-08  Udit Narayan: <is Carlsen seeing something we don't?>

thats's the case 99% of the time...

JohnBoy: <Thorski> - I must have said "F this - let's go TR a 5.9" a dozen times. Usually in a hung-over daze. Seems like a pretty realistic thing to say to me... (hehehe)
Jul-28-08  percyblakeney: 74. ... Kd5 and still promising for black.
Jul-28-08  cuendillar: <kamalakanta: 74. Be3> f4 75.Bg1 Kf5 and the f-pawn is lethal.
Jul-28-08  offtherook: <jon01: If b6, then it is -1.28> Maybe that's why I'm not a GM...
