 | | Hesam7: What a game indeed! Congrats to Bacrot for such a great comeback in the tournament. |
| Jul-31-08 | | Jesspatrick: A superb squeeze play. Well worth studying. |
Jul-31-08
 | | suenteus po 147: Very impressive game by Bacrot. One of the more memorable of the tournament I might add, Carlsen's start not withstanding. |
Jul-31-08
 | | acirce: Well done by Bacrot. He truly recovered spectacularly in the tournament after a lousy start. |
| Jul-31-08 | | Mateo: I feel sorry to quote myself but... <Mateo: 1) Bacrot has the White pieces. 2) he is obviously stronger than Dominguez. 3) He is playing well in the second part of the tournament. So he has decent winning prospects.> |
| Jul-31-08 | | Mulyahnto: Bacrot's wins against LeDoPe and Alekseev were really well played. |
Jul-31-08
 | | tamar: A Morozevichian performance by Bacrot. |
| Jul-31-08 | | Thrajin: <he is obviously stronger than Dominguez> How is he obviously stronger? |
| Jul-31-08 | | Mateo: <acirce: Well done by Bacrot. He truly recovered spectacularly in the tournament after a lousy start.> One of the best games of the year so far. |
Jul-31-08
 | | chancho: Dominguez still finishes first at Biel, right? |
| Jul-31-08 | | percyblakeney: I suppose that means rapid tiebreak if Alekseev wins against Pelletier. |
Jul-31-08
 | | chessgames.com: We'll switch over to Alekseev-Pelletier in just a moment. |
Jul-31-08
 | | 4tmac: Thanks CG. Kramnik, Kasparov, Karpov. (Botvinnik, Tal, Smyslov) |
Jul-31-08
 | | suenteus po 147: I got to the party kind of late. How on earth did Bacrot come up with 15.d5 while his knight was hanging? It's a great move! |
Jul-31-08
 | | chancho: Hopefully Bacrot can put whatever made him play so great in the second half into a bottle, and use it in future contests. |
Jul-31-08
 | | Marmot PFL: Did Dominguez just miss the point of 33.Kf1? |
| Jul-31-08 | | fromoort: I believe Dominguez is guaranteed a shared first. |
| Jul-31-08 | | ajile: 24..Bxa2?
Pawn snatching when you are behind in development is not good. |
| Jul-31-08 | | euripides: Someone posted querying Dominguez's choice of opening. Certainly Black's results in this database are awful, but maybe there are other more encouraging games with b4 (new in this database) or maybe it was a new idea: Games Like Bacrot vs L Dominguez, 2008 In any case, it's interesting that here the d5 thrust produces no middle game attack but instead a persistent advantage in activity in the endgame. |
| Jul-31-08 | | iron maiden: Fantastic second-half comeback from Bacrot. I don't remember him ever playing so well against this level of opposition. But if it took a 0.5/4 start to the tournament to inspire him like that, perhaps he's just not putting his best efforts into his chess the rest of the time. There's certainly more money to be had in his poker career at the moment, and maybe after growing up focused on chess he's having trouble keeping his motivation. |
Jul-31-08
 | | Ulhumbrus: Suppose that instead of 33...Rc5 Black plays 33...Rf8 and decides to wait. Then one threat is f4 and f5 followed by Ra8 trapping the black Knight. |
| Jul-31-08 | | arnaud1959: <iron maiden:..perhaps he's just not putting his best efforts into his chess the rest of the time.>
He is Nr 1 player in France but nobody knows him. Chess is just a game in France and a chessplayer is expected to have another job. In these circumstances I totally understand him. |
| Jul-31-08 | | Zonszein: People know who Laure Manoudou is(which is fine of course) but cetainly not anything about Bacrot |
| Jul-31-08 | | Etienne: I'm happy to see Bacrot play well, as he is a very entertaining and creative player. |
| Jul-31-08 | | Marvol: Great comeback by Bacrot and great not to see a 'quick draw in the last round, hold my rating and make my opponent happy'-game, of which too many are played. It's probably great fun now to read the comments that were aimed at Bacrot after the first rounds. Just goes to show that form is something fleeting and inexplicable. |
