Marmot PFL: I thought Aronian blundered with 25...Nc6, but that was OK if he had played 26...Nd5, with the threats Nb4 and Nxf4. Maybe missing that upset him, as his game went downhill quickly after that.

Marmot PFL: Should have typed 27...Nd5, 26...Bxf4 was fine.

Clumsy and careless game by Aronian. Ivanchuk always seemed to have points of attack and maintained the initiative. 35..Rc4 is difficult to explain from someone of Aronian’s class. I put it down to late boozy nights and wild women. Does sound better than chess though :-)

acirce: Myself, I don't think 35..Rc4 was an oversight. It was rather a desperate but futile attempt to stir things up in a position that would have been hopeless in the long run anyway. But he was not close to confusing Ivanchuk enough to get serious swindle chances the way he played either.

That's probably a better way of explaining it. I still like the theory about wild women and boozy nights though.
