50 Ke1-e2! 1-0

50 Ke1-e2! <DRIVES OFF (REMOVES THE GUARD)> the Black d3-rook from <DEFENDING> the 2-2 <LOOSE> Black d5-bishop, winning a whole piece.

<Notice that the Black d5-bishop suffers from not one but *two* types of tactical liabilities, <<<being both <LOOSE (LACK OF PROTECTION)> *and* <PINNED (MISPLACED PIECES>)>>>.>

Gupta (White) exploits the fact that it is <LOOSE> to <REMOVE THE GUARD (DOMINATION, DRIVING OFF)> and win it. The fact that the Black d5-bishop is also <PINNED> to the Black e5-king means that the Black d5-bishop cannot simply run away from the attack of the doubled White a5- and b5-rooks.

notyetagm: This game is annotated by World Junior Champion Gupta in New In Chess Magazine 2008/7.

Gupta says that he selected this game for annotation because Black gets a lost position without doing anything obviously wrong.
