cludi: I would start advancing those queenside pawns imediately if I was Kramnik. 16.a4

TheAlchemist: <That's interesting, but some of the TN's in these lines end up being switches in move order that eventually reach the same position anyhow.>

But it has to be satisfying to play 2 novelties in the same game

  Wandarnok: hmmm the g file...

GM Julio Becerra: Maybe 16.Rd1 Rg8 now.

madlydeeply: what's in this for black anyway? The white king is safer in the middlegame and white has connected passers for the endgame. Must be that mysterious "piece activity and central pawn mass"
Oct-17-08  seaotter: This looks pretty good for white

stardust762: I think 16. Rd1 turns life miserable for black

It highly preferred 15..Rg8 actually and at the current moment gives White a big edge. Kind of expecting that to change though.

AdrianP: Well Black has two excellent bishops and a half-open file to White's king. Scary for White as well.

Wandarnok: sure Black dont aim for an ending (2 passed pawns in the queen side for white, a pawn ending would be lost for Blck i think).

So go for a shap middle game!

Woody Wood Pusher: If Kramnik makes it to this endgame, he will more than likely win. Vishy is going to have to keep the pressure on in this middle-game or he is toast.

Kind of a role reversal from game 2 where Anand was desperate to reach an endgame LOL

pankajdaga: I am a patzer but Anand seems to be in a spot here...I mean after Rd1... Kramnik's position is really solid and he can start pressing...what is black's plan?

madlydeeply: i'd say Kramnik needs to keep his lsb back near the king to guard white squares after g3 is provoked. or arrange a lsb exchange

abstraction: 16. Rd1 is natural and aggressive

Boomie: I wake up to the smell of curry. Must be Anand's home cooking with 14...Bb7. Looks like a powerful kingside attack is coming after Rg8. This almost looks like real chess for once.

GM Julio Becerra: 16...Bxf3 17.Qxf3 Qxb5 is not a treat because the Rook on a8,so is not nessesary to play a4.

Ulhumbrus: Botvinnik won against Euwe's Meran in the famous game Botvinnik vs Euwe, 1948 Euwe played 12...Qb6 instead of 12...gxf6 and went on to lose after 13 fxg7.

AdrianP: <madlydeeply> I very much agree. g2 is going to be the problem spot for White, and his LSB is a few moves from being able to help.

chessic eric: 16.Rd1 looks good to me. Not threatening d4 so much (since ...Rg8 pins the f3 knight) as preparing an eventual rook lift Rd3.

keypusher: Quite a position -- white already has two connected passed pawns, Black has a protected passed pawn in the middle of the board.

Didn't Botvinnik and Smyslov play this line back in the 1950s?

pankajdaga: I guess the g-file and the bishops are what he has put his bets on...must tread carefully though.
