VargPOD: Anand must be very careful: if Kramnik can dry this, position looks very bad for black.
Oct-17-08  cludi: So far these World Championship games have been all about activity, haven't they? In this game Anand is playing for activity in the g-file and very active bishops, while Kramnik should hope for an endgame where his queenside pawns could easily decide the matter

  Ulhumbrus: Perhaps Anand's idea is 16 Rd1 0-0-0 17 Nxd4 Ne5 with an attack for a pawn
Oct-17-08  Woody Wood Pusher: Kramnik really eating his time....I hope Vishy replies instantly! LOL

Marmot PFL: Probably black has enough activity after Rg8 and 0-0-0 to compensate for some weaknesses.
Oct-17-08  Wandarnok: the Rg8 move at time is strong; pressure on f3, g2 is not easy to solve. Ne5 coming after Ke7 for example.

White should threaten the black king, otherwise not ending for them..

Sneaky: It all looks so good for White, but don't worry Vishy fans, Caissa has blessed the Meran Variation for Black. One big caveat though: Caissa doesn't tolerate even the tiniest mistake.

I agree with Becerra, Rd1 Rg8 are moves begging to be played. But after 16.Rd1 Rg8 17.g3 then what? Black can't allow Nxd4, so I guess 17...Bc5 there (but maybe then 18.b4 might be a very strong reply?).

TheAlchemist: <Woody> Do you think 17.Bxd7 is necessary? How about 17.a4? Though, there black can play 17...Ke7 and then 18.g3 probably. Too complicated for me.
Oct-17-08  AdrianP: I take it Nxd4 here (as per the first of Eyal's cited games) is a pawn grab too far?

jakaiden: <GM Julio Becerra: 16...Bxf3 17.Qxf3 Qxb5 is not a treat because the Rook on a8,so is not nessesary to play a4> after 16...Bxf3 white can throw in the in-between move 17. Bxd7+ then 18. Qxf3.
Oct-17-08  Woody Wood Pusher: 16.Rd1,Rd8!? 17.Nxd4!,Rg8 18.Nf3,Qc7

GM Julio Becerra: After g3 maybe 000 looks good to me.
Oct-17-08  popski: Indeed, to allow Kramnik this kind of pawn structure is like playing with a fire. I predict first win for Kramnik today.

amadeus: Greetings all. I smell blood in the air.
Oct-17-08  64kingdom: A4 avoid the bishop exchange in the first time for instance BXF3 QfX3 QXB5, moreover the white queen will be free, i think

peyote: Anand! Reminds me of Capablanca sacrificing a pawn with what everyone thought was a mistake at the time
Oct-17-08  Woody Wood Pusher: I think Vishy's big novelty is yet to come in this line...which is why Kramnik is thinking for so long
Oct-17-08  ajode: Hi guys!why cant kramnik just pik on d7 to keep the king in the centre.he is taking long.
