Oct-23-08  scrambler: Actually white has Bd2 follwed by placing his rook on c1 then rooks come off.
Oct-23-08  MindCtrol9: Well,if now <20.Ba3> White move one of the Rooks to <c1>that what I think.
Oct-23-08  arkansaw: <whatthefat> Judging from his last 3 games with White, he *might* be better off playing Black!
Oct-23-08  Wandarnok: Hi all,

i bet on Bd2 rather than Ba3, then may be a rook on c file to opposer or Qd3 to more control, drawish stuff...

Oct-23-08  Whiteresigns: <AdrianP: It's a strange position for Anand to aim for (if he has). Kramnik can play on indefinitely without any real risk.> Actually, hasn't Kramnik displayed so far in this match that playing on indefinitely against Anand is a risk?

GM Renier Gonzalez: Anand should avoid castling. We always have boring draws when he does so :).

Bischof: Hey I just login. I thought Anand was to have the black pieces and Kramnik was to have white. I'm confused. According to the pictures it's Anand with white and Kramnik with black again. Help someone I soooo confusssed!!!!!!!!

Eyal: Monokroussos: <Generally speaking, Black is in good shape. His king is safe, he has swapped off his worst pieces, has just about finished his development and achieved the right minor piece imbalance. There is one remaining problem for Black, though, and it's that his knight is on a poor track. It has nothing to do on d7, and there's nothing for it on b6 either. Ideally, he'll try to maneuver it to c6, but that will take a little time. First he'll want to make sure he gets his fair share of the c-file, so something like 19...Rac8 20.Ba3 Qc3 21.Rac1 Qxe3 22.fxe3 Nb8 is possible, with a fairly equal position.>

Oct-23-08  seaotter: DomDaniel -- Take the heavy pieces off the board put white pawns at h4 & f4 and a white King at d3 and then try holding this ending as black,... Leko is a master at torturing French players in such positions,... especially, if their is no attack against the d4 pawn,... the bishop is outside his prison of dark pawns and totally restricts the black king from entering the game,... so Anand can just slip his King into the black Qside and Kramnik can resign,...
Oct-23-08  Whiteresigns: <GM Renier Gonzalez: Anand should avoid castling. We always have boring draws when he does so :).> I think Anand would take some boring draws at this point.
Oct-23-08  Wandarnok: Arrgggg, i lost.
I am not Anand.. lol
Oct-23-08  AdrianP: <Whiteresigns> My point was is that this is a position where the drawing-margin is enormous, but any long-term advantage seems to be Black's. The games that Kramnik has lost have either been sharp / double-edged to the end (Games 3, 5) or Kramnik has been worse from the opening (Game 6).
Oct-23-08  scrambler: Judging from the match score we're gonna see another exciting game but not today.
Oct-23-08  MindCtrol9: <I was wright>
Oct-23-08  kamalakanta: <GM Renier Gonzalez: Anand should avoid castling. We always have boring draws when he does so :).>

Yeah! WHAT....IS....HE...THINKING?

Richard Taylor: <OneArmedScissor: Why the hell would Kramnik play this opening when he desperately needs a win?>

He may reason that he needs to simply play to his own style or strengths and - another thing is that it is notoriously difficult to win a won game - perhaps also to win a won match...this is one psychological aspect Anand needs to be careful about. That is he cant be complacent and Kramnik can play calmly knowing he cant do any worse than he has. Something like that...

GM Renier Gonzalez: Anand needs one more win to go over 2800 and it wouldnt come bad at this moment that Kramnik is playing weak.
Oct-23-08  arkansaw: <Whiteresigns> Kramnik didn't have much of a chance to play on indefinitely anyway, so far there has been barely any game that made the time control.
Oct-23-08  Mateo: 20.Ba3 was my guess as I noticed Anand didn't avoid the exchanges in any of his games in Bonn.
Oct-23-08  MindCtrol9: <Si what the Bishop does on <a3> controls the Black Knight movements, and after moving <Rac1> White has to be happy with the position>
Oct-23-08  seaotter: Actually, you need at least one set of Rooks to facilitate a break through via the 3rd rank,... c3-h3-h8 c3-c7,... of course Kramnik is not going to let him just do what he wants,...
Oct-23-08  arkansaw: <Leko is a master at torturing French players in such positions> Anand is not Leko, however. He's more for direct attack as in the previous games
Oct-23-08  AdrianP: Black would be happy to trade the rooks (and Queens if that's on offer) and play ...f6
Oct-23-08  Wandarnok: It takes 5 moves (only) for white to doubble on the h-file (!) with Qf4,h4 and Re1,e3,h3.

Is Anand going to mate on h8???

:-)

Oct-23-08  Pictura: I suppose black will want to reposition his N (on b8 then) c6 - it could be handy there - at least better than where it is now
