Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-20-08  Piti: Vlady had him on the ropes..
Nov-20-08  Raginmund: I think game was good for Kramnik, I don't know why he played 30. ...0-0 instead of Kd7... :( Piti, are you same from ICC??
my name there it's raimundo, of course, I'm a very kramnik fan.
Nov-20-08  shintaro go: This game we saw a more active Kramnik with the Black pieces. Clearly leftover prep from the WC match.
Nov-20-08  Woody Wood Pusher: 17.Qe3? and Aronian's position is busted. Luckily for him Drawnik has no idea of how to win with black so he gets the draw anyway!
Nov-21-08  percyblakeney: <Clearly leftover prep from the WC match>

Kramnik confirms that in an interview after the game, while Aronian means that he had a lost position already around move 20 but somehow got a draw.

acirce: Kramnik disagreed with Aronian, saying he was better but never winning.

Aronian gave the line 20..Nd4+ 21.Rxd4 cxd4 22.Qxf5 exf5 23.Nxb5 Rc8

Appears very strong but I wouldn't say it's necessarily winning.

Kramnik pointed out the obvious, that it was a complicated game with lots of alternatives at many moves. In the interview, he particularly singles out 27..f6 as perhaps not necessary.

parmetd: Fritz 11 loves f6, Rybka 3 hates f6. At first I was miffed by f6 but after analyzing it for awhile it makes sense. The computers all thought he was winning with either Kd7 on move 29 or 30 which makes sense as you are centralizing your king for the endgame. The white rook has no entry points. I would expect this move from Kramnik the endgame god. But maybe there was timetrouble?

AgentRgent: As far as I can see 29...Nxe2 seems like the best chance for Black to improve. I can understand the desire for the bishop pair with pawns on both wings, but the black knight on d4 seems a great deal better than the white e2 Bishop.
