May-04-18 | | ChessHigherCat: This line seems to work:
25. Rxe7+ Qxe7 (...Kxe7? 26. Nd5+ with a royal fork) 26. Qc4+ Ne6 (Kd8? 27. Rd1 pins the Q or Kg7 27. Bc3+ Kh6? 28. Qxg8! ) 27. Re1 Rb6 28. Nd5 Qc5?? 29. Nxb6! |
|
May-04-18 | | SpamIAm: I "knew" that the first move was 25.Rxe7+ but didn't see all of the subtleties following. Black's king is caught in a lethal crossfire. |
|
May-04-18 | | diagonalley: "difficult" ... indeed yes, too difficult for <diagonalley> ... but valuable as an example for instruction |

 | | al wazir: My line was 25. Rxe7+ Qxe7 (25...Kxe7 26. Nd5+) 26. Qc4+ Kg7 (26...Ke8 27. Qxg8) 27. Bc3+ Kh6 28. Qxg8. White is up a ♗ plus a ♙. I overlooked 26...Ne6. |
|
May-04-18 | | stst: The direct punk RxB+ will gain in exchange:
25.RxB+ KxR (if RxR, 26.QxQ is ludicrous!!)
26.Re1+ Kf7 (if Ne6, 27.RxN+ again is foul play for Black)
27.QxQ RxQ (what else?)
28.BxR leaving White with extra B |
|
May-04-18
 | | al wazir: But after 25. Rxe7+ Qxe7 26. Qc4+ Ne6 27. Re1, black has to lose something. If 27...Rb6. then 28. Nd5 Qc5 29. Nxb6 Qxc4 30. Nxc4. If 27...Re8, then 28. Nxe6 Qxe6 (alternatives are worse) 29. Rxe6 Rxe6. |
|
May-04-18 | | SpamIAm: <stst>- After 25.Rxe7+ Kxe7? 26.Nd5+ forking king and queen is faster. |
|
May-04-18 | | leRevenant: I got one or two of the moves here and there, including 25.Rxe7+ |
|
May-04-18 | | leRevenant: Gad sir, if it's Guseinov for you it's
Guseinov for me. |
|
May-04-18 | | WorstPlayerEver: The first moves seem obvious, but then things get ugly. Too ugly for me ;) SF9: 27... Qb6 28. Qd5+ Ne6 29. Bc3 Rd8 30. Qe5 Nd4 31. Nd5 Rxd5 32. Qxd5+ Ne6 33. Rxe6 Qxe6 34. Qxb7+ |

May-04-18 | | ChessHigherCat: <leRevenant: Gad sir, if it's Guseinov for you it's Guseinov for me.> If it's Guseinov sauce for you, it's Guseinov sauce for the Gadir. |

May-04-18 | | morfishine: <25.Rxe7+> |
|
May-04-18 | | gofer: <ChessHigherCat>: Yep. I went for the same line as you, but went with a slight twist at
the end...
25 Rxe7+ Qxe7
26 Qc4+ Ne6
27 Re1 Rb6
28 Nd5 Qd8 (Qc5? 29 Qxc5 Nxc5 30 Re7+ Kf7 31 Bh6+ +-) 29 Nxb6 Qxb6
30 Bc3 +-
click for larger viewWhite is only a pawn up, but is about to play Qh4 winning the knight
or another pawn, so black has to be very careful. (i.e. 30 ... Qd6
31 Rd1 Qf4+ 32 Qxf4 Nxf4 33 Rd7+ wins another pawn and creates three supported connected-passed-pawns which is a win in most scenarios). |

I would have just swapped Queens.

May-04-18 | | catlover: When I saw 25. Rxe7+ and looked at 25...Kxe7 and 25...Rxe7, I thought, "Did oversleep and wake up on Monday?" But then I saw 25...Qxe7 and thought, "Nope. It's Friday, all right." |

 | | takchess: I'm with catlover on this one. It looked too easy than I saw it's complicated. |
|
May-04-18 | | Monocle: Well, I had 25.Rxe7+ Qxe7 26.Qc4+ Ne6 27.Re1 Rb6 28.Ba5, but overlooked 28...Qc7. The actual solution doesn't look all that forcing, though, so I'm not sure exactly what you're supposed to see to consider it solved. |
|
May-04-18 | | Marmot PFL: My plan was 25 Rxe7+ Qxe7 26 Qc4+ Ne6 27 Re1 Rb6 28 Nd5 which should win, but the game line is better since it takes away Ne6 |
|
May-04-18 | | Carlos0012358: There is no winning this game for black. However, the horrendous 29.....Rg7 (instead of 29.....Qd6) surely accelerated black's death. |
|
May-04-18 | | agb2002: White has an extra pawn.
The first idea that comes to mind is 25.Rxe7+ Qxe7 (25... Rxe7 26.Qxb4 wins; 25... Kxe7 26.Nd5+ wins) 26.Qc4+ Ne6 (26... Ke8 27.Qxg8 + - [B+P]; 26... Kg7 27.Bc3+ also wins decisive material) 27.Re1 Rb6 28.Nd5 but White only seems to achieve a simplification of the game. Another option is 25.Qxb4 Bxb4 26.Bxb4 Rxb4 27.Nd5 (threatens Re7# and Nxb4): A) 27... Re4 28.Rxe4 fxe4 29.Re1 Ke6 30.Nc3 wins a second pawn. B) 27... Rb7 28.Rde1
B.1) 28... Nd7 29.Re7+ Kf8 30.Re8+ Kg7 (30... Kf7 31.R1e7#) 31.R1e7+ Kh8 (31... Kh6 32.Rxg8 wins) 32.Rxg8+ Kxg8 33.Rxd7 Rxd7 34.Nf6+ and 35.Nxd7 + - [N+P]. B.2) 28... g5 29.Rxf5+ wins another pawn at least. B.3) 28... Kg7 29.Re7+ Rxe7 30.Rxe7+ and 31.Rxa7 wins a second pawn. B.4) 28... Rg7 29.Re7+ and after trading all rooks White has a very advantageous ending due to the extra pawn (three againt one on the queenside). I think I'd play 25.Qxb4. |
|
May-04-18 | | agb2002: Very instructive. |
|
May-04-18 | | Mayankk: Rooks are such like-for-like replacements that one can often sac one of them without affecting the potency of the Attack.
In this case, we have 5 White pieces pointing at the Black King but four of them are unique and difficult to replace. You realise that you can sac one Rook for a critical Black defender (Bishop), immediately bring the other Rook on the same file and proceed on exactly the same line of Attack.
An intuitive and instructive puzzle. |
|
May-04-18 | | patzer2: Black's troubles started in the opening with 9...Nd7?, allowing 10. Ng5! ± to +- (+1.72 @ 20 ply, Stockfish 9 analysis of move 10.?). Necessary instead was 9...Bxe4 = to ⩲ (+0.30 @ 20 ply, Stockfish 9 analysis of move 9...?). |
