Looks like we will have to ask GMMU whether he knew we were aiming for perpetual check in the post mortem.

I don't think he did or he wouldn't have offered a draw at this point and reduce the artistic value of the game.

sofouuk: <kb2ct> ... really, you may need to come to terms with the fact that your aesthetic sensibilities are considerably more refined than those of others :-)
Aug-10-09  Nadark: I Thank everyone for a good game. Bye.

I believe it helped? N draw acceptors rised from 80% to 83% :)

<kb2ct: A chessfriend once accused me of preferring pretty draws to ugly wins.

Not true. Ugly wins, I just shrug my shoulders and walk away.

I can scratch for centipawns with the best of them, but if I spend months on a game, the endgame composer in me comes out.>

You're consistant, I give you that.

I don't know <kb2ct> the artistic value is still there. He gets the nice shot 33.Ng5! in & we come back with ...Nf4 at move 34 to counter. I've never been a fan of draws but this is better than most of them. I really don't think it is necessary to play out the perpetual. I know you are a big fan of endgame artistry & wanted a more dynamic finish. Should the game ever get printed postmortem analysis will show what could have been so that all the world can see(if there is a reduction in artistic value which I do not believe it is minimal). :O)

<sofouuk:>

The odds are in games with large teams, the mundane almost always beats the artistic. We were well on the way except for his draw offer. Maybe he didn't like being forced.

(Notable exceptions)

dotsamoht: It is a shame our bishop cannot jump through our queen to capture the White rook. 36... Bxf4 would be a winner!

In Houston, a player once won a game by inadvertently capturing his own pawn.

Another time, a player who had a knight pinned, something like

played Qc3+ and took the knight off the board. Sort of like queen moves check, capturing en passant. The crowd around the board tried to tell me, the TD, that something horrible had happened, but the affected player did not complain. I did not see the move transpire, so I just left it alone.

Aug-10-09  chessjones11: Of course we accept the draw offer. To do otherwise would be an insult.

dotsamoht: Oh, and we had a player who had definite mental issues, but could play chess. He never spoke to anyone and lost game after game. Every now and then he would manage a draw, but only with great difficulty.

Anyway, one time I was watching his game. As White, with a bishop on c4, he got in Qxg7.

Not exactly accurate, but you get the idea. Anyway, his opponent immediately played ...Rg8. I thought, "Wow, Murray is finally going to win a game!"

He thought and thought. I became despondent. He finally moved Qh6. He just could not win, I guess.

kingfu: The only important question: Does Rybka accept the draw?
Aug-10-09  Knight13: <dotsamoht> You gotta give him the credit of trying even after losing game after game. You don't see many people who are that persistent.

Definitely, I did.

Chess brought order, I think, to his world of chaos.

It gave a man who had experienced great loss (my intuition about the situation) a creative outlet. I think he did not win because that was not his focus. To play was his focus and he did that often.

dotsamoht: What if we all agreed to the draw and then switched all our moves to 36... Kxg1?

What would <CG> do then?

dotsamoht: I am going to miss having a team game to check out...

I feel lonely already...

Aug-10-09  kormier: <dotsamoht> you will never be alone; "nobody is an island".
Aug-10-09  Formula7: What would happen if we all voted 1-0 and accepted the draw offer?

Aug-10-09  ajile: <dotsamoht: I am going to miss having a team game to check out... I feel lonely already...>

There's another game coming shortly isn't there?

Aug-10-09  Thorsson: <kwid: I hope that the team considers his playing strength and therefore accepts the standing draw offer unanimously to reflect the dignity his earned status deserves.>

That would be nice, but as les Yanquis might say, "That ain't ever gonna happen". But 83% on board isn't bad.

Now let's make a couple of resolutions for the next game:

1. To try to consider moves other than Rybka's top pick; and

2. To try to win rather than to not lose - it makes for more interest I think.
