|Mar-26-09|| ||Whack8888: Haha, I love it! If it took Kramnik losing the World Championship (in a match) to get him to play the Sicilian again, it is worth it. Also, a rook and knight mate is awesome!|
|Mar-26-09|| ||AgentRgent: Amazing game by Kramnik! The normally extremely solid Leko is simply driven off the board.|
Judging by this and Carlsen vs Kramnik, 2009 perhaps the fire may have been rekindled.
|Mar-26-09|| ||Kottabos: If Kramnik allows himself to get really angry, he still blows everyone away. It's too bad that, just as with Spassky after he got the title, the anger is slow to come.|
|Mar-26-09|| ||BlackWaive: Kramnik must have really wanted this win.|
|Mar-26-09|| ||dumbgai: Where's Woody Wood Pusher?|
|Mar-26-09|| ||acirce: <After the rapid game Kramnik was happy that he had won the mini-match with Leko, but at the same time he found it difficult to enjoy his second win. ‘He was playing so passively. There was a point when I considered offering a draw, but when he was going back with all his pieces I was forced to play on.’ Kramnik criticized the tepid 11.Nc4 and 12.Nb6 and suggested 11.a4 with a white edge, and felt that after 23...d5 the position for White was already very difficult. The rest, till the moment he resigned on move 43, was suffering for Leko.> http://www.amberchess2009.com/Round...|

This was a must-win game for Kramnik, if he wanted to have any chance of catching up with Aronian, so he played the Sicilian - just as he did in the final games of the matches with Fritz and Anand (the only other post-2005 games in which he played the Sicilian); it doesn't necessarily indicate a real change in his repertoire. It might suggest, though, that he's better off with the Kan than the Najdorf in such situations

|Mar-26-09|| ||OneArmedScissor: Why do you people think Kramnik was "mad"?|
|Mar-26-09|| ||KamikazeAttack: Kramnik played like his 90s version here. He was very dynamic in his Sicilian days.|
|Mar-26-09|| ||Kaspablanca: is the rook and knight mate the arabic mate?|
|Mar-27-09|| ||shintaro go: <It might suggest, though, that he's better off with the Kan than the Najdorf in such situations> Seems like it.|
Leko had <no chance> in this game.
|Mar-27-09|| ||acirce: Yes, but as Kramnik indicates, Lékó played far below his usual standards. I don't see how it was such a great game. Kramnik himself "found it difficult to enjoy" it. Maybe somebody can explain.|
|Mar-27-09|| ||Woody Wood Pusher: Wow DRAWKO played so cowardly even DRAWNIK was forced to beat him.|
|Mar-27-09|| ||tonsillolith: <Kaspablanca> The Arabic mate would be with knight on f3 and rook on h2.|
|Mar-28-09|| ||shintaro go: <Kramnik himself "found it difficult to enjoy" it.> Maybe he found it too easy to convert the win with Black by his standards.|
|Mar-28-09|| ||tamar: <Kramnik himself "found it difficult to enjoy" it.>|
Perhaps the key word is enjoy. He'd like his wins to mean something.
Kramnik nearly always plays near his rating at blindfold, while Leko and Carlsen played him as if trying to remember where they put their pieces.
|Mar-28-09|| ||volvak: quote from Drawmnik

old habits die hard.
|Mar-29-09|| ||AgentRgent: <tamar: Kramnik nearly always plays near his rating at blindfold> True, but this was rapid...|
|Mar-29-09|| ||tamar: <AgentRgent> My kibitz was blindfold, though :) |
In that case, I have no idea what Kramnik meant.

You and I are in complete agreement, my old friend. :-)

|Apr-19-09|| ||Open Defence: I wonder if Leko considered 11.f4 I think Black would have some difficulties after this move and would probably weaken his own K side to try and defend|
