kdogphs: Please bear in mind that I mean no disrespect to Nakamura with my previous comment; I've watched his games, he's a daring and flashy player, and I think he's a forerunner in American chess. I just think he'd be better if he played in a more orthodox style is all.

Nakamura is Nakamura since he is playing in an unorthodox style.

holdem33: he will learn as he goes...just like the rest of us---definitely more.
May-19-09  James Demery: Was Shaba`s 39th move a blunder? Was he in time trouble?
May-19-09  Phoenix: If I remember correctly, Shabalov was already in severe time pressure as early as move 20.
Jun-08-09  chillowack: <kdogphs: I just think he'd be better if he played in a more orthodox style is all.> "Better"? 2700+ not good enough for you?

For the sake of chess, I hope Nakamura never "plays in a more orthodox style". He blazes his own unorthodox trail, he's a pioneer. He *makes* the game, he doesn't follow it. He's out on the frontier, boldly shaping the game with original ideas.

Same with Ivanchuk. Perish the thought that these geniuses should ever sacrifice their originality in the name of orthodoxy. On the contrary, let them stay eccentric: chess is the richer for it.
