Mar-29-11 | | YouRang: Well, I went with the first thing I saw, which was 26.Rxg7+ and the resulting Q+P for R+B which should result in an easy win for white. I suppose some could say that 26.Qh3 is arguably better, but I would rate this puzzle as having multiple solutions. |

 | | benveniste: Kudos to Mr. Nolte for seeing this over the board. Had this not been posed as a puzzle, I would have played the ♗xg7 line. |

 | | scormus: This morning I hardly rubbed the sleep out of my eyes when I tried to solve this "easy" puzzle. I saw the mating pattern, saw the BQh6 safely guarding the g7, saw W needed to force it away and went with 26 Rg3, threatening Rh3 and Rag1. I was fairly sure it would win Q for R. Just about to pat myslef on the back when I checked and saw, not R but Qh3. And a simple #. Howcould I be so blind? Went to work, got back, went jogging, and while doing that I thought. "Hey B doesnt have to be #ed, he can simply go 26 ... Qg6 and its more or less the same." Or is it - does 26 Rg3 also win Q for R? If yes, does it mean jogging is good for the brain.
BTW coincidence the first thing I saw when I logged back was <Once ... B does have to accept ...> |

 | | doubledrooks: I first examined 26. Qh5, but rejected that after seeing 26...Qxh5 27. Rxg7+ Kh8 28. Rxf7+ Qe5, and the game goes on. Then I spotted 26. Qh3 Qxh3 27. Rxg7+ Kh8 28. Rxf7+ Kg8 29. Rg7+ Kh8 30. Rg6+ Rf6 31. Bxf6# |

Mar-29-11 | | Lennonfan: <simonwebbstiger>....thats oh so presumptious!! I have games posted in the cafe, check the last one i posted, then call me weak....if your on fics il give you a game??
Back to my original question...whats a windmill line...mate? |
Mar-29-11 | | Lennonfan: <bobcrisp> <you ignorant!>
Are you trying to get my attention?? Or were you talking to someone else? |
Mar-29-11 | | redorc19: I'm not too proud to say I only found 26. Rxg7+, which isn't bad but goes into an endgame. Hope for a better Wednesday, since this one left me sick, not even finding the 26. Qh5 idea. In my defense, however,I spent literally about 8 seconds to find the Rook takes.. |
Mar-29-11 | | SimonWebbsTiger: @lennonfan
you are an utter disaster for this website. You pollute threads with trollish rubbish. I don't want to talk to you.
I will only say a windmill is a little something with a rook and bishop. Rook moves, discovered check, rook moves back with check. It can end with decisive material gain or a mate. |
Mar-29-11 | | Lennonfan: <simonwebbstiger>...see,there's no need for insults really...couldn't you have just posted that last paragraph? as i only remember asking you a question and not insulting you!....<simonwebbstiger...whats a windmill> your reply....<you are an utter disaster for this website..you pollute threads with trollish rubbish>!!!!!....why dont you go to the goldsby nakamura game page if you want to spk to ppl like that, there's loads of "friendly"ppl EXACTLY like you there....but il leave you with this after your last post... Just exactly who do you think you are speaking to someone like that who's never said anything wrong to you,and declaring im a disaster for this website?? Who made you the judge of whats good and bad on here?? I play chess too, what makes you better than me for this site?? What makes you a better player than me for example?? Its ppl like you who hide behind the internet because you dont have the guts to say that to anyone in a real life everyday situation...i can only think of what would happen!! |

<<Whitehat1963: How quickly I forget the puzzle I find!>> <I had the same experience last Tuesday> Happens to me far more than I care to mention! |
Mar-29-11 | | morfishine: <SimonWebbsTiger>...<No points for me, though, because the windmill was on the brain, not Rg8>...I guess this puzzle is find the fastest mate. I'd say at least take half a point if you started off with <26.Qh3>, but thats just me: you saw the mate: who could argue with that if there's more than one mate to choose from? |
Mar-29-11 | | morfishine: <Once> I enjoyed going over your analysis of this one as well as your roundup with ferrari's and blonde's. I like how demonstrated how the black cannot escape via <f6> due to penalty of mate. A strange thing happened to me today while working on this puzzle. I saw that 26.Bxg7 wins, 26.Rxg7 wins, 26.Qh3 wins flashily, 26.Qh5 possibly wins, etc. I thought "What kind of puzzle is this when everything wins?...when I started daydreaming about golfing or this summers vacation or the current inner-team game. I finally returned to my senses and thought "Well, lets see what the solution is" and pulled up the score...One problem though: I forgot to type-up my answer! How silly! "Am I getting old?" I thought as I started daydreaming again. Oh well, my solution didn't include 28.Rg8+ anyways. :) Morf |

Mar-29-11 | | Once: <morf> There are some things in life that just have to be learned... Don't eat the yellow snow.
The phrase "does my bum look big in this?" is <not> a question, even if it does sound like one. Equally, the statement "I love you" <is> a question, even though it doesn't sound like one. Always check that the path is clear before pulling a zip upwards. And be very very wary of flashy chess moves that look too good to be true... OTB I'd have grabbed that g7 pawn faster than a winning lottery ticket. But sitting here on CG.com I hesitated because it didn't look "Tuesday enough". It's a funny old game. |
Mar-29-11 | | BOSTER: I know that most Kibitzers in this site are clear puzzle-solvers,this is why I don't want to discuss the real game.
Nevertheless, I'd like to notice how white were fighting for control d5 square, playing 6.Nd2 , 7.Nf1 and 9.Ne3 ,and how white with black's help they opened "g" file. Black blinder -23...bxc3.
But I want ask only one question: Are you really satisfed when you see so obvious (deflection) move 26.Qh3?
And there is nothing to boast of here, because the method when the rook invades at g7 is so "hackneyed" and thoroughly studied that the only surprising thing if somebod don't know this. Mate with Bxf6 or Rg1 in the final position of the game (if26...Qxh3) nowdays know kids under 5 grade. So, what is the reason to write 2-3 <CG> pages, when one post repeat another? |
Mar-29-11 | | Once: <SimonWebbsTiger> <lennonfan> <bobcrisp> Gentlemen, gentlemen! A little decorum and civility, please. Whatever history you have between you, it's really not worth all this heat and unpleasantness. Life is too short to drink bad wine ... or to fight battles that you have no chance of winning. |
Mar-29-11 | | estrick: <Lennonfan: ...whats a "windmill line" mate...?> I can't get the link to work (it keeps going to Dutch windmills instead of chess) but just google "windmill chess" and a very nice article in wiki should appear at the top of the list |
Mar-29-11 | | fab4: Gotta say, and jeez this is surprising me lol.. but I've some sympathy for <LennonFan> here.. I think <SimonWebbsTiger> is a bit of a drama queen..Oh and <Simes> ..calling someone 'weak' because they don't know what the 'windmill' is,is a bit pathetic. This site is a bit cliquey, like most net sites like this... the net breeds cliqueyness.. it's just how people are.. |
Mar-29-11 | | Lennonfan: <fabster>...i gotta appreciate your honesty lad,and even though we dont see eye to eye on many things i thank you for speaking on my behalf...and i agree this place is very cliquey, mostly because ppl want to fit in and make friends, but im not that bothered about that because i know im not like them,im just a normal working class guy from an estate, where worse things than some kid iv never met insulting me on a website before happen everyday in front of my eyes...thats why these ppl are safer spking from behind a computer screen...and know it..
<once>..i never wanted no argument nor wish to carry on one with these guys,i was merely asking a question, but like i say....this wouldn't happen without ppl hiding behind the internet in a real life situation
<estrick>thanks for the tip mate, but from that lads "detailed helpful" description i got the jist of what he was saying...
And all i wanna do is learn more about, and play more chess....its more addictive than many drugs..trust me!
I just cant help biting back!! |
Mar-29-11
 | | Penguincw: Darn it.Got it wrong.I was thinking that 26.♗xg7 would be the move because we have a fork between the rook and queen.Worse of all, when the bishop moves,it's going to give a nasty discovered check.Or maybe even 26.♖xg7 is good. But 26.♕h3 is the best move. click for larger view click for larger view |
Mar-29-11 | | WhiteRook48: i decided on 26 Qh5 instead but it doesn't work |
Mar-29-11 | | EXIDE: O.K. I get it. This weeks puzzles ,so far, have more than one way to win. So the objective then must be to win with the most crushing method. I always thought a win is a win. Well no more!! |
Mar-29-11 | | cjgone: Messed up. Got the right starting move, but I didn't notice the pawn which could block the bishop if you pulled the rook back.. Oops. |
Mar-30-11 | | Once: <Lennonfan: ... I just cant help biting back!!> I find the best tactic is just to ignore the silly comments and not to reply. There are some on this site who don't like me and will make the occasional barbed comment ... but I've long since given up responding. It's just not worth the hassle. I suppose the moral is that you get back what you give. The <majority> of people on CG are friendly, decent and helpful. If you belong to this crowd then you should have few problems. But once you start throwing mud, even if it is in retaliation, you could get a reputation for being a mudslinger. |
Mar-30-11 | | Lennonfan: <Once>..Thanks for your advice regarding me biting back mate, but like i say i dont wish to belong in the majority or any group for that matter, and i know they're some nice, decent, helpful ppl on this site, and many ppl i can learn from chesswise, and i enjoy speaking to those ppl,but as for being part of the <majority>just to get on with ppl,its not for me....id rather take individuals as i see them, whether they're "popular"or not...id be deceiving myself agreeing with ppl just because they're popular...anyway you seem like a decent guy,
All the best
