tamar: Threat Qh5+ Qf7 so we will see ...Rg6 most probably. I think Topalov missed Rxf8

Eyal: <tamar: 23 Rf1 was recommended, but what was the continuation against 23...b4>

24.Rxf6! Nxf6 25.Bb5 or 24... bxc3 25.Rxf8+! Nxf8 26.Bg6+. So apparently it was either 23...e4 or giving back the piece as in <Mateo>'s line for Black.

Sneaky: I think that White has a forced draw now. But does he have better?

Eyal: After 28...Nxf6 instead of Qc7 it should be a perpetual.

tamar: Definitely a game to study, but with both players missing chances.

Great analysis <Eyal> I missed Rxf8 in the ...b4 line

23.Rf1 b4 24.Rxf6 bxc3 25.Rxf8+ Nxf8 26.Bg6+ wins, for example.

An Englishman: I had been looking at 38...Rxc3+; 39.bxc3,Qxc3+ and that looked like a perpetual.

talisman: 37, Qx b7 was the blunder?
May-17-09

tamar: Topalov is taking his time now, a bad sign for Ivanchuk. Not very practical play by Chuk when there a perp to be had.

  Domdaniel: 39...Qc4+ wins

Eyal: Ouch!! After 37.Qxb7?? white should be losing; instead, after 37.Qf7+(!) Kd8 38.Qxb7 Qe3+ 39.Kd1 Black has no more than perpetual, because there's no rook check on d8.
