May-31-09  alwilliams: This reminds me of my game with Maxim Dlugy from an open tournament in New York 1986.He had recently become a GM and was paired against me in the third round. He had white and we proceded to play the same line as this game.On his tenth move he made the same blunder as Wang Xiaohui 10Rd1. In this game Ding Yixin responded with 10..Rc8 and went on to win rather routinely.I'm sure had she been aware of Dlugy vs Williams 1986 she would have played 10...Bc2 winning the exchange with no compensation.Dlugy sat in shocked disbelief for ten minutes before meekly playing 11e3.I'm also sure Yixin would have no knowledge of this game since I dont think it was ever published.Anyway I found the move otb and was not aware if it was an established opening trap, afterall 10..Bc2 does look like a patzers one move idea of a threat.
May-31-09  sharkw: Wow, playing through the game I had no idea that Black had almost an instant win 10 moves into the opening, just goes to show that you can never let your guard down.

In the game above, however, White would appear to have close to a winning material advantage if he played 30. Bf2 instead of walking into it with 30. Kg2??.

Jun-02-09  alwilliams: Yes sharkw, 30Bf2 does preserve a material advantage but after 30...Ra8! the situation is far from clear.
