tpstar: FWIW it isn't Igor A, Alex N, Vadim or Mikhail. And ChessBase 8.0 doesn't have any Kramnik games prior to 1988.

ChessBase does have one reference game matching this one through Move 14 = Majstorovic-Udovcic (Ljubljana 1951) which isn't in your database yet, but nothing else.

Note the PGN gives this game as B85 while your search functions correct it to B83.

Kramnik seems to have decided to sac a pawn, which Zaitsev gobbled up after 17. f5 (attacking the e6 pawn) Qd7 (protecting the e6 pawn but abandoning the b6 pawn) 18. fxe6 fxe6 19. Bxb6

White's position then looks alright. But Kramnik shortly after launches a bayonet attack with 21...g5

How could White have lost? His Bishop looked kind of funny in b6 doing nothing for the rest of the game.

Nov-25-10  rapidcitychess: Waste tempo here, waste one there.

Kramnik's pawn sac was bogus, but luckily the guy got careless.
