Kibitzer's Corner
Dec-26-09  Gambit All: Bach-Stranded would be more appropriate. Opening is boring!
Dec-26-09  davegras: After the 32nd move all white's major pieces are poised for the attack.
Dec-26-09  Nullifidian: White had an attack at the 32nd move already. It's mate in 7 if Bach had played 32. Rh8+, though obviously the game move is winning.

32. ♖h8+ ♔f7 33. ♘e5+ ♔f6 34. ♘c6+ (or ♘g6+) ♔xf5 (♔f7 35. ♖xe7#) 35. ♘xe7+! ♘xe7 36. ♕f7+ ♖f6 37. ♕h5+ ♙g5 38. ♕xg5#

Dec-26-09  Winter: It seems that Bach was playing the piano with every piece falling into right places.
Dec-26-09  Once: A fun little game and a christmas cracker pun!

The polish opening 1. b4 is probably not as bad as it looks. It inhibits a black c5 or Nc3 and allows white to park his LSB on the long diagonal. But then white adopts the Hippopotamus formation, which just looks far too passive. I suppose that a dozen moves into the game, we have a Polish-Hippopotamus vs a classical dutch, a Frankenstein creation which may never have graced a chess board in the entire history of the game.

Black seems utterly bemused by all these shenanigans and quickly drops pawns and pieces to a series of two or three move tactics.

Dec-26-09  WhiteRook48: 19 Nh4- fatality!
Dec-26-09  Sem: IMO 18. ... h6 creates a hole you wouldn't want in one of your molars.

Domdaniel: <Opening is boring!> Eh? Each to their own, I suppose. I find this opening exquisite - it's exactly what I've tried to do in countless tournament games. A harmless-looking opening, a gradual build-up, and an attack seemingly from nowhere. It almost never works as well as it does here.
Dec-26-09  Benzol: <Domdaniel> I agree with you. Why are there some people who want to be dismissive of the play in certain games? I wonder if they could do better. As you say each to his or her own I suppose.

Domdaniel: <Benzol> Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am *so* tired of people who dismiss anything unfamiliar, whether an opening or a style of play (or writing, music, art, films, etc). Turning what could be a chance to learn something new into another dreary sneer. Perhaps such limited thought is its own punishment. Strong players are normally slow to criticise others.
Dec-27-09  Red October: as the Rybka forum is finding out in a Wing Gambit game :)
Dec-27-09  whiteshark: Christmas rescue drops according to Bach.
Jan-04-10  kevin86: Ah!,Bach!

Boxing Day-should be a day for a big fight-lol
