Jan-11-18  centralfiles: What wrong with the simple thematic 8.g4 immediately?

  ajk68: The computer likes 8. g4.

I think Mieses didn't want to let 8...d5 in. It could free up black's game.

Jan-11-18  goodevans: I guess black thought he was being clever choosing <26...a5?> over the routine <26...Bg6> but that poor decision quickly cost him the game. Sticking to the blindingly obvious would have left him with fighting chances.

Perhaps black overlooked <29.Rd1>, forcing the exchange of Rs after which black is hopeless, but even if white doesn't play this (e.g. 29.Bxa4) he is still much better than he would have been after 26...Bg6.

Jan-11-18  dumbgai: Bxg1 lol

chessgames.com: Fun fact: this game is 100 years and 1 day old.
Jan-11-18  centralfiles: <ajk68> You have a point about ...d5 this was obviously blacks intention when playing ...Ne7. As a Kings gambit player I would play 8...Qf3 followed by 9.g4 without thinking much.

ajk68: It looks like chessgames posted the Stockfish analysis - confirms Ne7?
Jan-11-18  morfishine: Loads of improvements for Black for this game

Simonson simply overlooked all of them
