Aug-10-09  ROADDOG: Could Gata have played on? and try to draw after 29...Rxd1? or is the position more hopeless then what I am seeing? Good rebound win for Jako after round 1 loss.

Marmot PFL: Pd4 would fall on the next move so it is hopeless. I guess Gata wanted to hit Jakovenko while he was down but it backfired. maybe he missed 28 Nb6 when he went into the mess starting with 18...Re6?!

Timeline: at least 2 pawns are falling after that capture (29...Rxd1) pawn on d4 and black has to push b pawn to sacrifice it by en passant capture otherwise Nb6 and rook is forever trapped and will be captured by Bb8 to follow. and even after that pawn sac white's position is very active with piece up for a pawn than black's.
Aug-10-09  Jason Frost: 29...Rxd1 30. Rxd1 and 30...b6 is forced

(30...a5 31. a4 Be6 32. Nb6 and the black rook is hopelessly trapped)

after which 31. cxb6 and black will have to sack at least one more piece to stop the b pawn from queening

Aug-11-09  LaFreak III: 17...Nd5 is better than the text move, simply letting the light squared bishop into action
Aug-11-09  kurtrichards: Kamsky's time on move 29 when he resigned was 1 min.46 sec.- good enough to make 11 moves to reach the first time control. But with the position on the board not good for black (it would seem) perhaps Kamsky decided to give up and prepare for round 3. Bad game for Kamsky.
Aug-11-09  ycbaywtb: is it just me, or does it look like Black is winning after 24.Kh1 seems like Kamsky blew it in the next 5 moves, the idea of R to the 7th rank way to early, he needed to regroup before assaulting further after the 24th move by White
Aug-11-09  crwynn: you mean he needs to regroup while he is a piece down and about to lose a rook from Nb6 and Bb8?

Hesam7: chessok gives 21...Rf6! as Kamsky's last chance:

<21...Rf6 22.Bxe5 Qxe5 23.Rxf2 Be6 24.Qa3 Rxf2 25.Kxf2 Bc4 26.Nb6 d3 27.Nxa8 Qd4+ 28.Kg3 Qe5+ Rybka Aquarium (0:03.30) (+0.00|d16)>

Aug-11-09  Jason Frost: <ycbaywtb>

Kamsky has 3 pawns for a piece, but his own piece placement is terrible and the position might really already be lost for black.

Hard to recommend anything over 24...Re2

(24...Bd7 25. Nb6 Rd8 26. Bc7 Rde8 27. Nxd7 R8e7 28. Nf6+ Rxf6 29. Bd8 )

25. Bd1 Nf2+

(25...Rf2 26. Rxf2 Nxf2+ 27. Kg2 Nxd1 28. Rxd1 Be6 29. b3 and white has a piece for 2 pawns and good piece placement so probably )

26. Rxf2

Aug-11-09  Knight13: <Kamsky has 3 pawns for a piece, but his own piece placement is terrible and the position might really already be lost for black. > Yes, black's position in the final position is completely hopeless. White has better piece placement and coordination while Black's rook on a7 and bishop on c8 has nothing better to do.

Ulhumbrus: 4...a6 loses a tempo for development and weakens the Queen side.

10 Bxe4 concedes the bishop pair after 10...Nxe4 11 Nxe4 eg 11..Qc7 12 Bg5 Nd7

Aug-11-09  WhiteRook48: rook gets trapped
Aug-14-09  shintaro go: Kamsky is out of his mind
