I hope you drop by and play through this analysis. The address of my blog is: http://albertan1956.blogspot.com/ |

| Feb-18-10 | | polarmis: <Notagm: What about 27... Qxd3?> It seems to be objectively best, but Lebedev and Ganiev point out that 27...Kb6 is the human move. Otherwise you need to find the computer-like:
27...Qxd3! 28.Qe5! a5! 29.Bxc3 Kb6!!

| Nov-28-10 | | AuN1: the year is almost over, and i still have not seen a game that has surpassed this one, played back in january. it may be years before there is a better game than this one. |

| Nov-28-10 | | GilesFarnaby: 14.g4 has little record, being the main alts. Qc4 and 0-0 (like in a previous Gashimov-Grischuk encounter in Elista 2008, that finished 1-0 and is widely commented by Stohl in a CBM) As a novelty, I think, was presented by A. Lastin in 2002 and up until the other GMs that used it (Mamedov and Radjabov) have never lost with it, so letīs see how this line evolves because, aside from this g4 push, it seems like there arenīt a bunch of ideas in the traditional f5 line which, by the way, is being deadly for black as of now at professional level. The novelty in this game was 15.Qh3 I guess, and judging by Grischukīs response (15...Rh7) either he had studied the line also or he simply tried an exotic move to get Gashimov out of preparation, and Gashimov would have probably had more chances with the direct 16.g5 (instead of 16.Rf1) click for larger view16...hxg5 17.Nxe6 Qc6 18.Qf5 Bxe6 19.Qxe6 Rh4
Quite an amazing line from my lab that I give you for free, you lucky rascals! |

Dec-21-10
 | | Shams: <SufferingBruin> Offhand I must agree-- game of the year. Is it the finest middlegame king march in chess history? Certainly it makes Short's against Timman look simply prosaic. |
 |
| Dec-22-10 | | SufferingBruin: <Shams> I'm inclined to agree. You ever hear of sporting events where people are glad they had the ticket and saw it live? I'm envious of the folk who followed this game. I wonder what they were thinking. In fact, I'm making a call to any and all who viewed this game--what was it like for you? I've been arguing with my athletically inclined buddies for years that chess is a helluva spectator sport. I would have loved to have been in the audience to see this. This game should be put on a stamp. |

| Jun-16-11 | | DrMAL: Voted game of the year, Grischuk's king walk is indeed one of the most spectacular ever played at high level. It gives him a throne of his own even if the WC lottery marble this year based on silly short/blitz games landed on red instead of black. However, play in this game is simply substandard overall. After several offsetting mistakes on both sides, 23.Bf4 is the last (for now) that should be decisive. Starting with 23...Bb4+ play gets very accurate on both sides. 27...Kb6 is slightly better than 27...Qxd3 a very subtle decision that Grischuk brilliantly finds. 28.Qh3 was best but white plays 28.Be3+ another inaccuracy that propels black's king even more in correct response. Then white plays another mistake 29.axb4 instead of 29.Rf4 and the game is totally lost. Black's king completes its journey as part of the correct sequence up to move 35. While easily the most spectacular game of 2010 the quality of play precludes my vote for best overall. |
