Jan-17-10  Pedrosian: I thought Be4 was the right move too.
Jan-17-10  chessic eric: <Bxf7+ was flat out wrong. Be4! wins decisively.> I'd call the current board position fairly decisive...
Jan-17-10  Mateo: Well, it' over now. Impressive play from Nakamura.

  Ulhumbrus: One question is why Rybka gives 31 Be4 as winning. After 31 Be4 White threatens 32 Qg5+ Kh8 33 Qg6+ Kg8 34 Qh7 mate. 31...Qd2 covers the square g5 but then 32 Re5 threatens 33 Rg5+ Kh8 34 Qh6 mate. There seems no way to defend the Black King and Black's Queen may run out of checks: 32...Qd4+ 33 Kc1 Qg1+ 34 Kd2 Qd4+ 35 Bd3

Sneaky: <miseiler: Bxf7+ was flat out wrong. Be4! wins decisively.> Really?? I don't see the follow-up. What about 31.Be4 Qd2, and if you say 32.Re5 then I say ...Qd4+ gives Black way too much counterplay (if not a perpetual check draw). Or do you have something else in mind?
Jan-17-10  Pedrosian: Great and entertaining game by Naka!

Eyal: <Bxf7+ was flat out wrong. Be4! wins decisively.>

lol what a classic computer comment. Both moves win decisively - Be4 is a bit more difficult to calculate, though, and also gets something like +7 instead of +4...

Jan-17-10  cludi: If flat out wrong is winning without problems, then I'd wish I'd make more "flat out wrong" moves in my games :)

Sneaky: <CG> When does Nakamura get his own rook? :-D
Jan-17-10  eternaloptimist: in the kramnik - leko game, leko looks fine. i don't think kramnik's attack will gather much steam. hopefully it won't anyway, so i can get some more chess$. not that i'm going to win the chessbookie game anyway, but...wait a minute i'm an optimist. i shouldn't have typed that.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Thanks, CG--Carlsen-Smeets is one of the wilder ones in progress.
Jan-17-10  eternaloptimist: <An Englishman> i'll have to check that game out again. it's been a while since i looked @ it.
Jan-17-10  cade: Kibitzers like miseiler who know nothing about chess but sit around with powerful chess software open pretending they can see anything are so lame. These kind of people know absolutely zero about chess.

No, actually 33.Kc1?? Qg1+ 34.Kd2 <Qd1+> leads to perpetual check; White should play 33.c3 Qd2+ 34.Bc2. Which just goes to show that this line is more difficult to calculate, so that from a practical viewpoint it makes perfect sense to play 31.Bxf7+.

Jan-17-10  DaveyL: Man, I bet notyetagm is on the smelling salts after this one...
Jan-17-10  eternaloptimist: naka strikes again! van wely didn't look to wily in this game. hopefully naka can get several more wins for the good ol' u. s. of a. i like how naka restricted van wely's Qside attack w/ his N on d4 & his B on f1 - hitting the b5 square & preventing ...Pa5. if ...Pa5, then Nxb5 - gaining a tempo by attacking van wely's Q. later after ...Pdxe5, naka played Nc6 & his attack slowly, but surely gathered steam & won the game for him.
Jan-17-10  sarah wayne: 31.Be4 Qd2 32.Bd3 looks like zug.No checks so Re5 is next.
Jan-17-10  esticles: Naka after 30...Qd5:
"I used some time here. Originally was planning on 31.Be4 Qd2 32.Re5, but I couldn't find a winning variation after 32...Rd8, so I decided to take no risk in the endgame." [Rybka: 33.Bh7+ Kxh7 34.Qxf7+ Kh8 35.Qf6+ Kg8 36.Rg5+ ] http://www.coruschess.com/report.ph...
