| Jan-30-10 | | PeteGwent: brilliant combination |
 |
| Jan-30-10 | | karakoyunlu: Seems like yesterday's draw in 15 moves between Anand and Smeets worked for them pretty well...They had more time to prepare for today... Good strategy :) |

| Jan-30-10 | | kingsindian2006: good stuff from the bottom of the table at corus... Now we see why they invite these two ...:) I smell puzzle! |

 | | Eyal: This is rather similar to what already happened to Van Wely in an earlier round - Ivanchuk vs Van Wely, 2010 - where he was also crushed very quickly in a sharp Sicilian (repeating this game up to 9...b5), with an early e5 advance by White being a crucial factor. Here, at least, it seems that Smeets simply analyzed better than him a line which turns out to be quite lousy for Black (the first new move was apparently 13.fxe5 instead of Bxb7, and after 15...Bxg2 instead of Kxe7 Black already seems to be basically lost), while in the game against Ivanchuk Van Wely fell into a sort of opening trap which was already familiar from a couple of previous games. |

| Jan-30-10 | | Andrew Chapman: If 22.. Qxb6, what's the continuation? Nxf7? |
 |
Jan-30-10
 | | Eyal: Yes, 23.Nxf7 with the threats Nxh8 & Qa8+ is decisive. |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: <Andrew Chapman>, the funny line is 22...Qxb6; 23.Nxf7,0-0 (legal!); 24.Nh6+. |
 |
| Jan-31-10 | | Alphastar: <An Englishman> How is it legal? The black king already moved several times. |

 | | scormus: <0-0 (legal!)> It's OK, just the English sense of humour;-) |

| Feb-01-10 | | TheaN: LOL, I was actually trying to castle to see what AE meant, until I noticed Kxe7 and the rest.... "hmmmm something's fishy here". |
