Gotta give credit to Topa though for finding Nxf6!!

Apr-24-10  vonKrolock: Kf7 and Nxf6 - WC is back to the 1890s

Oh he has it alright. He saw this the whole way.

PinnedPiece: What I find curious is, if Anand spend 25 minutes analyzing 23..? and came up with Kf7, it must be based on this next move 24..?

So why does he need another 10-15 minutes after getting what he probably feared most?

AgentRgent: Very disappointing performance by Anand...
Apr-24-10  A Karpov Fan: Anand is in Topalov's restroom right now, pulling down the ceiling and looking for cables.

virginmind: up until 18 ply fritz 11 didnt even consider 24.Nxf6 among it's two first options. now after it's being played it realises and at 20 ply it gradually reaches +1.45...why on earth did i spend money on this machine...?
Apr-24-10  malthrope: WoW! Yep after 24. Nxf6! might as well call its quits and order dinner... An ominous start for Vishy and a power house play for Veselin. ;) Good call Nigel! :D

Eyal: <I don't see how Nxf6 works. How would white continue?>

Here's one example out of many possible lines: 24... Qxf6 25. Rh3 Kg8 26. e5! Qxe5 27. Qxg5+ Qg7 28. Qf4 to be followed by Rg3.

Apr-24-10  unununium: Anand has no chance against Topalov. Hail the new king of chess!

Absolutely, but this is very strange from Anand. Might I even say unprecedented?

Enough already, eh?

Marmot PFL: <acirce> Yes, as I said before, that's the reason I largely quit this opening.

Also I think Anand will regret that this match is all on his opponent's home field.

Apr-24-10  A Karpov Fan: Weren't engines supposed to eliminate this kind of opening disaster from world championship play?

Nigel Short: When White plays Nh5 he is almost obliged to follow it up, sooner or later, with Nxf6. I am actually at a loss to explain what went wrong with Anand's preparation: h4 and Rf3 are completely obvious moves so I don't really know what Anand was doing, because he fell apart immediately.
