Phony Benoni: You'll probably have to settle for the Queen's Gambit.
Apr-28-10  DEEPERGRAY: Hell yeah bring on some E4 action
(Unfortunately it might lead to berlin or petroff)

Paulo49: Best wishes for both players.I hope an e4 for the next game.
Apr-28-10  Kazzak: <goommba88: Anyone hoping for 1.e4 out of Anand in this match is going to be disspointed im afraid.>

And as Topalov is playing white on Friday, you won't see that statement tested then. :-)

whiteshark: 1.c4 is a kind of 1.e4 for left-handed, no?

kellmano: To be fair, 3 of the 4 games played so far have had a fairly authentic gambit.

The score for the gambits: 3 - 0

Apr-28-10  Kazzak: We'll probably get the resurrection of the King's Gambit next. :-)
Apr-28-10  MaxxLange: Has anyone ever played the King's Gambit in an "official" World Championship match?
Apr-28-10  Bondsamir: the level of play by Topalov is way below 2800, the blunders he made were totally rejected by a computer of 2200, I just want to know what type of preps he was recieving for world championship ? he is making the shape of chess the uglyest ever with such performance. and I don't think this man is sane at all, and I am sure he will come up with new story of cheating "he will say after another loss that his seconds sold his preperations repetoire to Anand.

I found one; probably others could rattle off more off the top of their heads.

Chigorin vs Steinitz, 1892

O/T question: Was Steinitz/Gunsberg an "official" title match?

Apr-28-10  Knight13: Go Topalov!

Phony Benoni: <Shams> I haven't checked exhaustively, but offhand I've only found one ohter King's Gambit in a world championship match: Lasker vs Janowski, 1910

Steinitz - Gunsberg is generally considered a World Championship match, and Gunsberg made a surprising good fight of it. Steinitz-Gunsberg World Championship Match (1890) has some background information.

boz: 1.e4 or 1.d4, either way Topalov will probably come out swinging.
