  wordfunph: thanks <Eyal>, i didn't see 24.Rxa6 coming huh! anyway 22. Nd7 Bf5 23. N7c5 played..
May-01-10  Lt Commander: Whites cavalry is overloaded, blacks artillery is performing superior. But I presume it’s gonna be an infantry showdown, since no airforce backing available. Fritz 11 ( 0.00 ) aiming a DRAW!

Bobby Fiske: Topalov spending the next 20 moves trying to save his pair of bishops.
May-01-10  Knight13: Gotta love this positional play.

Ulhumbrus: 24 Kg2 prevents ..Bh3 and the K may defend the e2 pawn from f3. Besides, the White King is then ahead in development of Black's King if it comes to an ending.

Boomie: Prepare for some fancy dancing by the white cavalry.
May-01-10  DoesItHurt: Sooner or later Anand will force Topalov to exchange on c5. Nb7, maybe a3, and then the same plan f3, g4, h4, Kf1 or f2.

Yeah it's great. Particularly as there aren't many people today with a computer declaring a clear draw as if they had calculated every variation to stalemate.

autolycus: <extremepleasure2>: yeah, religion for the masses; their only problem is that two bishops can never agree on the same target — unlike two knights.

tpstar: <chessgames.com> Thanks for the almost-live broadcast. =)

Anand should be commended for using 1. d4 routinely in a WC match where these crucial games will ultimately decide his legacy, as his career to date is 10:1 1. e4 over 1. d4. Repertoire Explorer: Viswanathan Anand (white) Compare to Kasparov who alternated 1. e4 & 1. d4 throughout Repertoire Explorer: Garry Kasparov (white) Anand must have invested a world of preparation to handle the various nuances.

I'm not seeing the same "criminal waste of a White" comments today, suggesting the cognescenti are distinctly biased against Topalov and/or his management.

May-01-10  MTuraga: We are near the 25th move after which errors/weak moves appeared in the last few games. Is Anand betting on the same? This game is out of the book and database from move 13. Qa4
May-01-10  birthtimes: Anand will no longer play this line, since 14...e5! equalizes by freeing both the light-squared bishop and queen...
May-01-10  mack: <<Sim1> What kind of cells are in your avatar? Those are some big nucleuses.>

The oldest chat up line in the book.

wordfunph: remember bishop pair is better than 3 knights.. :-)
May-01-10  Knight13: <mack> Asking what's in someone else's avatar? Hell, I got that A LOT when I had a bacteria avatar myself.

zenithooligan: extreme pleasure- drove out to see the volcano two weeks ago..life goes on as usual here although a lot of headaches for travellers.

question for anybody...to what extent does the match score (3-2 for the champ) play into consideration here. surely it's far too early for topalov to start thinking about needing to play for a win. is anand content to take the air out and force topalov to press? or perhaps it's yet too early and the match too close for more broad 'match-based' considerations. thanks, ...just curious.

  chancho: Nb7 played...
May-01-10  DoesItHurt: If Topalov resists with the exchange, the Knights could head for e4 and f4 (after f3, g4) with some advantage.
May-01-10  arkansaw: <life goes on as usual here although a lot of headaches for travellers> how true! Iceland creates trouble for the world but suffers little of consequences herself :P
May-01-10  Billy Vaughan: <I'm not seeing the same "criminal waste of a White" comments today, suggesting the cognescenti are distinctly biased against Topalov and/or his management.>

To be fair, Topalov is the one behind in the match so he needs to make more of his whites than Anand does.
