 | | suenteus po 147: Alekseev must have lost on time since the position seems drawn. Pity. |

 | | acirce: I was sure it had to be a wrongly reported result, but those are usually corrected quickly. I still think it is, but we'll see. http://astrakhan2010.fide.com/live-... |

| May-12-10 | | Albertan: Strange both the official website and TWIC website have a copy of the game in which Alekseev played his 40th move (as Chessgames.com has also). We can only
conclude that Alekseev fell asleep at the board, or he had so many moves to
make to reach the time control, he missed making it by one move. Nigel Short lost the first WC game to Kasparov by one move in their match. He made his 39th move simultaneously with his flag falling. If he had only made one more move he would have made that control. Time management is part of the game. I think the FIDE made a bad decision to change the time control.Supposedly they did it to try and make it more likely that more people might want to watch FIDE tournaments, however, there have been too many instances where players have lost on time or lost near the time control due to blunders. Of course the worst thing is they never asked the players if they wanted this time control change (especially the GM's). |

 | | Marmot PFL: <We can only conclude that Alekseev fell asleep at the board> I guess playing Leko will do that to you, eh?
The system white played is one I also use, only I always took on b5 with the N and on e4 with the B. I think it leads to livlier play. |

 | | Eyal: As for the loss on time, Alekseev said in the press conference after the game that he had a certain blackout, and thought for some reason the game was being played with an increment already at that stage; only when he had just 8 seconds left on the clock, he suddenly realized there is no increment. |
