Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-15-10  Philidor: Two draws after two games for Carlsen, still one cannot accuse him for being drawish...!
Jun-15-10  three martlets: I don't see why Radjabov preferred 13.Bd2 over Re1. Also 16.d4 looks more natural than Bb1. 16...b5 looks better than ...Rb8. Carlsen's 18...Bd6 looks passive. Perhaps ...b5 instead. This comes at move 21. 19.Qe1 is sweet!
Carlsen's 24.Nxd4 is fantastic! So close to winning.
Jun-15-10  ounos: Random fun fact: Between the moves <15.> ...b5 and <24.> ...Nxd4, <all> moves by both players were of a single-square distance! That's 17 single-square moves!
Jun-15-10  Blunderdome: Interesting game, I thought Radja was lost before the simplifications, glad he saved it.
Jun-15-10  Blunderdome: <three martlets> The computer engine Stockfish and GM Christian Bauer both disliked 16...Rab8 (which Carlsen played quickly), with the computer preferring 16...Rfd8. Radjabov thought for a long time, close to half an hour I think, before playing 13. Bd2. Not sure what he saw, I suppose the problem was that white has plenty of decent moves, but no really strong one that stands out.
Jun-15-10  shintaro go: Another dubious opening from Radja with White.
Jun-15-10  vonKrolock: <64.g5> if 64...♘h5, then 65.♔g4 ♘f4 66.gf gf 67.♔f5 ♔xf3

68.♔xf6 draw

Jun-16-10  JohnBoy: I think that Radja's opening choice is a way of saying that he has yet to figure out how to crack Carlsen. Not an impressive outing by white. Rather a clever tactical way out of a difficult situation.
Jun-16-10  Ulhumbrus: From moves 23 to 20 the move 20 Nxe6 gains the bishop pair. An alternative to 21...b4 is 21...Bd7 avoiding letting White play Nxe6
Jun-16-10  Everett: <JohnBoy> So what if Radjabov has <yet to figure out how to crack Carlsen>? He's in good company.

Further, Radjabov is still trying to find openings for white that suit his style. His choices have very little to do with opponent, IMHO.

Jun-17-10  Ulhumbrus: <From moves 23 to 20 the move 20 Nxe6 gains the bishop pair. An alternative to 21...b4 is 21...Bd7 avoiding letting White play Nxe6> I mean to say, from moves 13 to 20 the move Nxe6 gains the bishop pair. An alternative to 21...b4 is 21...Bd7 avoiding letting White play Nxe6
